Benidorm hosts a tribute to Olympian Liliana Fernández at the WEVZA European Beach Volleyball Tournament

Councillor Javier Jordá participated today in the presentation of the event, which will bring together some of the best players on the circuit
Benidorm will host a tribute this Sunday to one of its most outstanding athletes, beach volleyball player Liliana Fernández Steiner, in a WEVZA European women's tournament to be held on Poniente Beach, bringing together the city's most prominent European players throughout the weekend. Benidorm City Council's Sports Councillor, Javier Jordá, participated in the tournament presentation this Thursday alongside the president of the Valencian Community Volleyball Federation (FVBCV), Arturo Ruiz, and other organisation members.
After participating in four Olympic Games and achieving an extraordinary eighth place in Paris last summer alongside Orihuela native Paula Soria at the age of 37 and the mother of two children, Lili Fernández will be the star of the closing ceremony of the WEVZA European women's tournament, which kicks off this Friday and runs until Sunday. She will be supported at this tribute by her family and friends, including Elsa Baquerizo, her partner on the sand for 14 successful years. The WEVZA grand final will be on Sunday at 6:00 PM, followed by a tribute to this Benidorm native and world champion of beach volleyball.
Javier Jordá explained that this tournament will be held in a large sand stadium located on Poniente Beach, with a capacity for 500 spectators, and admission is free until full capacity is reached. Some of the best European beach volleyball pairs will participate in this competition, with special attention to the Spanish pairs Daniela Andreu-Elba Páez and Nazaret Florián-Adriana Serrano. All four also attended the event presentation today, along with the Sports Councillor and the president of the regional Federation.
In addition to the Spanish couples, athletes from Switzerland and the Netherlands will also participate in the WEVZA, seeking a place on the Benidorm podium.
The WEVZA in Benidorm and the subsequent tribute to Lili Fernández are organised by the FVBCV (Five-Blood Volleyball Federation), with the participation of the Benidorm City Council, Alicante Provincial Council, Generalitat Valenciana and the Spanish Volleyball Federation.
