Benidorm creates a new roundabout on Severo Ochoa Avenue to improve road safety and traffic flow
Benidorm City Council will carry out a new project on Severo Ochoa Avenue in the coming days to improve road safety and traffic flow. The work will take place at the intersection with the access road to the Rocas Blancas residential area and will be very similar to the project carried out months ago at the intersection with Moscú and Ciudad Real streets, allowing vehicles up to five meters long to make a U-turn.
With the creation of this new roundabout, the Councillor for Mobility, Francis Muñoz, stated, “the goal is to improve road safety at this point where the access to the Rocas Blancas residential area is located, integrating the bike lane more safely, improving traffic flow, and calming traffic, thus considerably increasing road safety at this location.” The implementation of this roundabout will also eliminate a left turn considered dangerous.
The work will begin in a few days, in conjunction with other work being carried out by a nearby hotel, “to minimise disruption.” In fact, as Muñoz specified, the new roundabout will be created primarily through horizontal road markings and should be completed in a single day.
The councilman also emphasised that with the upcoming work, “we continue to increase traffic capacity at the intersections while minimising queues. We are also improving road safety with this project.”
The work will essentially consist of lightly milling the areas to be modified to remove the existing paint, followed by painting the final road markings that define the new layout of the intersection and installing the corresponding vertical signage. Finally, Muñoz highlighted that with the work carried out last summer and this upcoming project, “road safety and traffic flow have been significantly improved, and turning has been made easier for vehicles up to five meters wide.”
