Benidorm companies adhered to the SICTED system begin a transition project towards tourism sustainability

The companies attached to the SICTED system in Benidorm have started a project that will help them in their transition towards true tourism sustainability. The SICTED management team has decided given the work carried out in the improvement groups. In this first phase, environmental sustainability will be worked on, which may be expanded to social, economic, and government sustainability.

To this end, the 'Transition towards tourism sustainability' project has been launched,  based on sustainability self-diagnosis that allows companies to evaluate the degree of its integration in their organization, publish their sustainability report and undertake improvement actions.

In Benidorm, a total of 86 tourism companies and services have the SICTED distinction after the quality round table that took place on May 28, in which all of them successfully passed the Distinction Committee. 11 member companies presented themselves to this table to receive the distinction for the first time, another 73 renewed it and two more are in a situation of extension.

The objectives pursued by this new project are: Firstly, carry out an individualized self-diagnosis of the tourism companies and entities in Benidorm, evaluating the degree of environmental sustainability of participants. Secondly, have a global vision of the state of Benidorm's tourism sector and implement improvement actions individually for each participant.

Likewise, it is intended to provide participants with an environmental monitoring tool. Finally, an individualized sustainability report and a global report of the SICTED destination will be published.

To carry out all this, a website has been developed to present the project and a computer tool that allows companies to carry out both the initial self-diagnosis and the monitoring of the indicators defined for the companies. The website is http://sostenibilidaturistica.es

The Comprehensive System of Spanish Tourist Quality in Destinations (SICTED) is a program developed by the Secretary of State for Tourism, whose purpose is the comprehensive and permanent management of quality in a tourist destination. It arose from the need to provide a solution capable of fully managing quality in a tourist destination. The main objective is to achieve a homogeneous level of quality in the services offered to tourists within that destination, encompassing both the tourist services themselves and those others that, without being strictly so, affect the tourist's consumption itinerary.
