There will be a walk along the underground and the changes and modifications in traffic will be explained.

Benidorm brings together the residents on Thursday to inform about the details of the new Beniardá avenue just before its reopening

30 May 2023
Avenida de Beniardá

The call is part of the 'A pie de Calle' campaign that every Thursday moves to a neighborhood of the city

Avenida Beniardá will be fully open to road traffic this coming Thursday, as the Department of Mobility announced yesterday. For this reason, Benidorm City Council, through the Department of Citizenship Participation and Urban Scene, and within the campaign 'A pie de calle', has brought together residents so that they can know in detail the works that have been carried out in recent months, as well as to thank them for the enormous effort they have made to overcome the inconvenience caused by the works and the effects on traffic.

The appointment will be at 11:15 am at the corner of Capitán Cortés Street. From there, there will be a walk through the new underground section, which will be fully signposted and ready for vehicles to start circulating. A fact that will occur as soon as the scheduled visit is over.

Attendees will be able to see first-hand all the details of the work and the new configuration of road traffic, they will also be explained the new access to the Colonia Madrid that is enabled from the avenue itself in an ascending direction at the height of Calle Alcalá and They will also receive information on the work that remains to be carried out in the upper part of the underground section, through which the railway will pass, which will have pedestrian access and ornamental elements.

The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, indicated that the objective of this event is "to show our gratitude to the neighbors and residents of this neighborhood for the inconvenience they have been standing for these months. But also to all the drivers in Benidorm and other towns who regularly travelled along this area and who saw their habits changed from one day to the next”.

Pérez highlighted "the unquestionable improvement in traffic" that will entail the opening of the underground avenue, "a road that supports more than 30,000 entry and exit vehicles daily" and that after the works "will mean a great advance in vehicle traffic, in comfort for drivers and pedestrian safety at the top”.

The mayor also wanted to have words of recognition for the "excellent behavior of the drivers, who in a very high percentage have met all the recommendations and alternative routes proposed so that the traffic worked correctly during this time."

Lastly, Pérez highlighted the "great effort" made to reduce the deadlines originally planned, "which spoke of 16 months and which have finally remained just over eight since that September 15 when it was closed."

He also stressed that after the inconvenience suffered "now we all have an avenue in keeping with the city of Benidorm, which solves many mobility problems and restores peace of mind to the residents."
