Benidorm City Council will begin next Monday the renovation works of the drinking water and sewerage infrastructure and improvement of the accessibility of Beniardá avenue, works that will cover the section between Alfonso Puchades avenue and Relleu street.

The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, together with the Councilor for Urban Scene, José Ramón González de Zárate, and members of the government team, have presented this action "in situ" today, which will have an execution period of six months and a budget bidding basis of 771,126.93 euros.

The work will involve, among other areas, the renewal of the drinking water network. Specifically, 656 meters of the network, which is now made of fiber cement and will be replaced by ductile iron pipes with diameters between 450 and 100 millimeters. The renovation of 14 home connections and the installation of four buried fire hydrants will also be carried out.

As for the sewerage network, 162 meters of sewage network collector will be rehabilitated with the placement of a fiberglass sleeve with polyester resin.

These tasks will be complemented by work on the surface, which will affect the pavement, signage, and street furniture. Thus, on the one hand, 3,369 square meters will be paved with hexagonal tile, similar to the one that already exists in the executed sections of the avenue. Lugs will also be created for the protection of pedestrians and pedestrian fords will be formed at the crossings by lowering the grade of the sidewalks.

In the same way, itineraries will be formed using the tactile, button, and directional pavement according to the accessibility regulations, and the signaling of this pavement of the existing unevenness and facade edges in arcades has been projected. Added to this is the placement of new urban furniture and the replacement of road signs.

The intervention is scheduled in five phases, according to the sections of street affected "to make the intervention more comfortable" explained the mayor. Thus, the first phase covers the section from Alfonso Puchades to Orxeta street. The second phase will go from the confluence of Jaime I and Montera to Alcalá street. The third will occupy the section of the avenue that goes from Orxeta street to La Nucía street. The fourth will be the section from La Nucía to Calle Sella and the last phase will cover from Calle Sella to Calle Relleu. However, the execution of the phases will not necessarily be carried out in this order, "but their development will depend on the needs and the coordination with Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana in the burial work on Avenida Beniardá that they have been running for months” specified the mayor.

In the presentation of the works, Toni Pérez highlighted "the important commitment to accessibility and the constant renovation of the infrastructures wherever it is necessary", which in this case is complemented by the infrastructure renovation works that have already been carried out in the left sidewalk of the avenue in the direction of La Nucía or the renovation of services carried out in Orxeta, Relleu, Sella or Callosa d'En Sarrià streets.

The mayor also highlighted that with this action Beniardá avenue "continues its transformation into a boulevard, as was our commitment, with a significant improvement in the urban scene, in furniture, lighting, and trees, facilitating and promoting access pedestrian to the future shopping center through an avenue that will be completely renovated”.

Pérez, who has called the works "very substantial", has reviewed that "January is a good month to start these works" because its start coincides with the beginning of the work under the TRAM track, which since Sunday night it will stop operating for three weeks for excavation work at that point.

The mayor concluded by pointing out that the main avenues of the city "will have achieved optimal renovation in a very short time" thanks to the actions undertaken in recent years. "The streets have to be for the people" he concluded.
