Benidorm awards doctor Eusebi Chiner with the 2017 exemplary neighbor distinction

26 October 2017
Benidorm otorga al médico Eusebi Chiner el galardón de vecino ejemplar 2017

Chiner: "Benidorm is an example of coexistence, fruit of the open mentality of our sailors and workers"

Dr. Eusebi Chiner i Vives, head of the Pulmonology Department of San Juan Hospital in Alicante, received from the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez the Exemplary Neighbor Award in its seventh edition, an award that recognizes, by a proposal of the Neighborhood Council, to the most significant people of the city.

The ceremony took place in the Plenary Hall of the Town Hall where, in addition to the award winner and the mayor, Francisca Fuster intervened as a spokeswoman for the 'Exemplary Neighbor Commission 2017'; and Rafael Alemany, secretary of the jury. Among the attendees, María Jesús Pinto, responsible for the municipal area of Citizen Participation; representatives of municipal political groups; and a large public made up of relatives and members of the sociocultural groups of Benidorm. The teacher of the Municipal Conservatory 'José Pérez Barceló', Aroa Blanco, was responsible for softening the act by playing piano pieces by Chopin, Claydeman and Pachebel.

Eusebi Chiner thanked the City Council for the award. "Benidorm is an example," he said, "of coexistence, fruit of the open mentality of our sailors and farmers; of the capacity of work of our women and of the progressive adaptation to the different cultures ". The award has described the city as a "paradigm of coexistence", a place where "free time with the hard work of their neighbors live together".

For his part, Toni Pérez has congratulated Chiner for his professional career and has been convinced that soon we will hear of "this exemplary neighbor" for future recognition to his person, and not only in the field of medicine because " culture, traditions and our roots are always very present in his work and his signature, "he said.

Eusebi Chiner, as well as Chief of the Department of Pulmonology at the Hospital de San Juan, is a contributing professor of the Department of Medicine at the Miguel Hernández University and a researcher, a citizen closely related personally and familiarly with the traditions and culture of Benidorm.
