The asphalting will begin in about two weeks to make the road with no sidewalks before the summer

Armada Española will have a new roundabout at Xixo and new bus stops to improve mobility

13 April 2023
Campaña a Pie de Calle

'A pie de calle' campaign has explained to residents the latest works that are being carried out and the good progress of the replacement of Poniente walkway has been verified

The works that are being carried out on Armada Española Avenue are already facing their final stretch once the work has resumed after the end of Easter holidays. For this reason, 'A pie de calle' campaign has travelled to that place with the councilors for Citizen Participation, Beaches and Mobility, Ana Pellicer, Mónica Gómez, and José Ramón González de Zárate, who have been accompanied by the vice presidents of the Neighborhood Council, Antonio Zamora, and Francisco Martínez, as well as residents and representatives of neighborhood associations in the area.

During the visit, the councilors explained to the neighbors the actions that have been carried out in the Spanish Navy in recent months, work to create the Low Emission Zone, which has been financed by the City Council and the Provincial Council of Alicante.

Among these actions, the creation of a new roundabout on the avenue at the height of Xixo has been explained to improve mobility and the creation of new bus stops adapted to mobility regulations and the single platform that will be implemented on the avenue.

The Councilor for Mobility, José Ramón González de Zárate, indicated that “we have complied with what the neighbors asked us to do. We started after the Patroness Saint Festivities, and before Easter, we stopped the work with all the services practically finished”.

The works have been resumed after the holidays "to finish them definitively". These works include the construction of the aforementioned roundabout in Xixo, the bus stops, and the leveling of the manholes and sewers to make them suitable for the single platform. "The idea is to start paving in about two weeks," said González de Zárate, who advanced that everything will be completed and open before the summer "including the garden areas in which work is also being done." "We have complied with the neighbors" he added.

During the visit, the progress of the work to replace and renew the Poniente footbridge, which began before Easter Week and has already started again, has also been verified. Mónica Gómez, mayor of beaches, has indicated that "we have verified that everything is going according to schedule, with a good part of the catwalk already removed so that the new one is available to users before summer."

This action is valued at 1.6 million euros and is being financed by Benidorm City Council "given the refusal of the Generalitat and the central government." Gómez stressed in this sense that "although it is not our competence, it is our responsibility and that is why we want it to be a catwalk that is as aesthetic as possible and not at all dangerous, as the previous one was in some section".

The chosen material, technological wood, is a stable flooring made up of high-quality elements and great features, without being a fixed installation, so that it can be removed when cleaning tasks have to be undertaken. The intervention will affect an approximate area of 5,400 square meters and 1.5 linear kilometers. The aesthetics will be similar to the current catwalk, although it will gain in stability, sustainability, and resistance to the effects of the weather.

Finally, the Councilor for Citizenship Participation, Ana Pellicer, wanted to value the campaign 'A pie de calle' "because it has helped us to find out all the doubts and suggestions that the residents of each neighborhood could raise." She has allowed, as she has indicated, "that the proposals received at the beginning of the legislature are now realities that everyone can see and enjoy."

The councilor, in addition, wanted to "thank the involvement and collaboration that the residents have had during this time, beginning with the members of the Neighborhood Council, the associations of each neighborhood, and all those who have sent us their concerns to improve their neighborhoods".
