Mayor Toni Pérez and the Councilor for Culture visit students and teachers during one of the sessions at the Cultural Center

The 36th International Music Course brings together nearly one hundred young musicians from all over Europe in Benidorm

03 July 2025
El XXXVI Curso Internacional de Música congrega en Benidorm a cerca de cien jóvenes músicos llegados de toda Europa

The 36th edition of Benidorm International Music Course brings together nearly 100 young musicians from all over Europe throughout this week to improve their musical knowledge and practice and spend time together with top-level teachers and other like-minded young people. Classes, practice sessions, and concerts will take place throughout the week at the Municipal Professional Music Conservatory, located in the Cultural Centre. The program began last Monday and will continue until tomorrow, Friday, at 9:00 p.m., when the final of the 26th International Music Competition will take place, this year in the oboe category, with the three finalists performing alongside the string trio "La Stravaganza."

As has been the case in recent years, the Mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and the Councilor for Culture, Jaime Jesús Pérez, along with the Director of the International Course, José Antonio Gonzaga, visited the Cultural Center this morning to greet students and teachers and observe how the classes are progressing in this year's six instrumental specialties: saxophone, piano, oboe, violin, marimba, and clarinet, taught by teachers of the caliber of Mariano García, Ángel Sanzo, José Luis García Vegara, Miguel Colom, Conrado Moya, and François Brenda.

The Councillor for Culture noted that this year's organisation received a total of 150 registrations for the 70 places offered, which demonstrates "the high quality of this course and the interest of many young people in coming to Benidorm to learn and enjoy a first-class musical experience." Jaime Jesús Pérez pointed out that there were 70 active students, with a maximum of 12 per speciality, in addition to around twenty musicians as auditors.

The councillor also noted that this week, the "Classics at 9" activity is being held in parallel to this International Music Course. These concerts will be held free of charge until the Cultural Centre Auditorium is filled, "and with the guarantee of hearing high-quality music from the best professionals." Thus, tonight at 9:00 p.m., a marimba concert is scheduled "with the two best marimbists in Europe and among the best in the world," Conrado Moya and Katarzyna Mycka. Tomorrow, Friday, will be the final of the International Competition for the oboe speciality.

Jaime Jesús Pérez noted that half an hour before each concert, "Musical Appetizers" are given by the course students, which "have been introduced into the program this year with great success," and he once again "encouraged the public to come and enjoy the two remaining concerts on the program, which are sure to be a huge success."
