UMB Symphony Orchestra welcomes the new year from the Cultural Center
The auditorium of the Cultural Center has hosted the New Year's Concert offered by Benidorm Unión Musical Symphony Orchestra accompanied by the soprano Marlene Aquino under the baton of its principal conductor, Rafa Gómez, and which has had the presence, among others, from the mayor, Toni Pérez; the Councilor for Culture, Jaime Jesús Pérez along with other members of the corporation; and the regional deputy, José Ramón González de Zárate, among the 450 attendees at the event.
The concert began with 'El Barbero de Sevilla', by Gioachino Rossini, and continued with 'Je veux vivre' (Romeo and Juliet) by Charles Gounoud; ‘Canción de la Ninfa’ (La viuda alegre), by Franz Lehár; 'El vals del Emperador', by Johannes Strauss (son); and 'Costa Diva' (Norma), by Vincenz Bellini, the piece with which the first part ended.
During the break, the mayor of Benidorm briefly addressed the attendees to congratulate them on the new year. He thanked them for "the great concert" offered by Rafa Gómez and Marlene Aquino, of whom he wanted to highlight that "they are both from Benidorm." Toni Pérez predicted that “this year 24, from Benidorm and for the world, is going to be very hopeful, with a lot of music and culture.”
Next, the concert continued with 'Waltz No. 2' (The Jazz Suite No. 2), by Dmitri Shstakovich; ‘Vals del ballet de la Bella Durmiente’, by Piotr Ilich Tchaikovsky;
'La canción de la paloma' (El barberillo de Lavapiés), by Francisco Barbieri; 'Prisoners' (The Daughters of Zebedee), by Ruperto Chapí; and with 'The Beautiful Blue Danube', by Johannes Strauss (son), which closed the official program.
However, and as tradition dictates in New Year's concerts, the UMB Symphony Orchestra has offered, outside of the program, the encore of 'Carceleras' and the piece that usually stars in many of the recitals held today throughout the world, the 'Radetzky March', by Johann Strauss, accompanied, as tradition dictates, by the applause of the public, also directed by Rafa Gómez.
