A brigade will remain in the neighborhood fixing all the damage in all the streets of the neighborhood
The municipal technical services improve the accessibility of Foietes Avenue
Benidorm City Council has started repair work on the sidewalks on Foietes Avenue, work that is being carried out by the municipal technical services brigade after requests from residents received as a result of a movement of the land due to the ravine that runs through the area.
The 'A pie de calle' campaign has travelled to the neighbourhood today to check 'in situ' the development of the tasks of distribution and improvement of accessibility, with the councillor for Public Space, José Ramón González de Zárate, the councillor for Citizen Participation, Ana Pellicer, the vice-presidents of the Neighborhood Council, Teresa Garrido and Manuel Sánchez Notario and residents of the neighbourhood.
“It has been a very busy area since Foietes park was built” explained councillor José Ramón González de Zárate, who detailed that the reason for the work is that “there has been a settlement of the ravine that has caused a drop in four or five centimetres on the sidewalk.”
This unevenness has resulted in some pedestrian falls "and we must also take into account that it is an area with many hotels in which the passage of older people is very frequent."
The mayor has specified that the arrangements will be made "in the entire avenue", while he has clarified that the circumstance has been used to "separate the private area from the public one". This work is done by placing a special tile "that facilitates the transit of blind people, who thus know where they have to walk."
"The neighbourhood is now 100% accessible, although we are missing some details on which we will act because we have to adjust to a law that changes and is constantly updated" insisted the councillor, who has assured that the City Council " will continue to act to improve the ride for all people with reduced mobility problems”.
In this sense, councilwoman Ana Pellicer has highlighted the commitment so that a technical services brigade stays in the neighbourhood permanently "to review all the tiles on the streets, make improvements and then proceed to make lugs on the sidewalks".
Pellicer has also indicated that they have been supervising with the neighbours the installation of the new streetlights financed with funds from the Institute for the Diversification and Saving of Energy (IDAE) "and verifying the difference between the old ones and the benefit that it supposes".
