The Department of Mobility is going to signal and publicize in an information leaflet the 29 free zones and park-and-ride parkings that exist in Benidorm and add up to more than 3,800 parking spaces. The councilman of the area, José Ramón González de Zárate, has advanced that signage will be placed in each of these areas or parking to promote its use and thus "not saturate" traffic in the urban area.

De Zárate indicated that these areas and / or park-and-ride parkings, located mostly "at the entrances" of Benidorm, "solve several problems." On the one hand, "they allow neighbors to park near their homes"; on the other hand, "that workers who arrive from other points in the region use them when they arrive in the city and from there they move to their places of work"; and also, "that tourists can park their vehicles during their vacations".

The councilor detailed that the brochure "will be available throughout the month of July" and that it will include "the location of each car park, the number of places available and the nearest urban transport stops." In this regard, advanced that, although "most of these parking facilities have very close bus stops", discussions have been held with the concessionary bus company, Llorente Bus, in order to "when appropriate, to establish new routes to improve the connection of the car parks that have more occupation and thus facilitate the displacements of users ".

The councillor indicated that this act of signaling and editing the brochure is "the embryo", since "the intention in the future is to implement security measures in these car parks, include all information about them in an app and install systems for measure occupation

In this regard, he added that "the City Council is not limited to making large areas of asphalt" that work as parking, but linked to the development of the Smart Tourist Destination (DTI) is proposed this "signage" and the "installation of panels digitized news that mark the free and occupied spaces "or" the placement of charging points for electric vehicles ".

The councillor explained that the modification of the pending Mobility Ordinance could improve regulation and make viable a better service for residents, workers and visitors. Thus, he recalled that the text contemplates the possibility that these park-and-ride parkings operate as a green area with zero cost for residents and payment for those not registered, which would allow for the implementation of surveillance systems, measurement of occupation, and so on. .
