This is Bosska's second intervention in Benidorm, taking over from Misterpiro in this part of the city

'Luces Cruzadas', ephemeral urban art on Benidorm's El Murtal bridge

11 April 2025
‘Luces cruzadas’, arte urbano y efímero en el puente de El Murtal de Benidorm

Urban artist Ana Cortes Bosska gave an educational tour of her latest work, the mural "Luces Cruzadas," located on El Murtal Bridge. She was accompanied by Mayor Toni Pérez and Councilor for Historical and Cultural Heritage Ana Pellicer, along with other members of the city council, residents, and regional representatives José Ramón González de Zárate and Manuel Pérez Fenoll.

The artist is also the designer of the mural "Homenaje a la Mujer," located next to the old Rincón de Loix dock. This is her second intervention in the city, and in this case, she replaced the design created by Misterpiro in 2019, which had deteriorated over time.

In this regard, the Councilor for Historical Heritage pointed out that murals "are ephemeral art; they have an expiration date, just like urban art," and even more so in a city like Benidorm that has "been transformed into an open-air museum," where the rotation of artists and exhibitions "is a constant throughout the year."

Pellicer noted that the work "has been carried out on an area of approximately 380 m2," which has been "restored" by applying facade cladding, which Bosska worked on "with acrylic resin-based sprays" that guarantee "maximum durability and resistance to inclement weather or ultraviolet rays."

Bosska's work "presents two visions," the Councilor continued. The exterior is "a view from Benidorm to the Mediterranean," dominated by "mauve tones representing women, or the green and yellow tones of the forest and the snowdrop flowers." On the contrary, inside the tunnel, "the light is hidden and the plants and fruits offer us an interior and intimate feeling."

"It's the artist's vision of Benidorm," to which Bosska added "a nod" to the anniversary we are celebrating this year, the 700th anniversary of the founding of Benidorm, with "the inclusion of the official logo with which all of Benidorm society commemorates it."

"A mural that is like Benidorm," said Pellicer, a city where "the light of day and night shine, like Bosska's 'Crossed Lights.'" Therefore, he encouraged "each viewer to draw their conclusions," coming "to enjoy" this urban enclave of Benidorm.
