An initiative that has different recommendations focused on mitigating drought

"Lo del agua, en serio”, the Hidraqua campaign that promotes the responsible use of water

12 June 2024
Lo del agua, en serio”, la campaña de Hidraqua que promueve el uso responsable del agua

Focused on the responsible use of water throughout the year, Benidorm City Council and Hidraqua start the “Lo del agua en serio” campaign. A series of recommendations that, given the global context of drought, aims to bring citizens closer to different ways to reduce water consumption during these months.

This citizen awareness campaign proposes several daily ways that allow large amounts of water to be regulated in the home and garden maintenance. Simple tips that convey useful information that is sometimes unknown. These contents can be consulted in full on the Hidraqua website through the link https://www.hidraqua.es/consejos-de-ahorro.

Benidorm has a sunny climate of more than 300 days a year, but this privileged time also has its drawbacks, turning dry periods into drought. A situation that, due to the natural risk it entails, can lead to the origin of a drought with more visible and relevant consequences. Given this, within the framework of the fight against climate change.

José Ramón González de Zárate Unamuno, councillor for the Water Cycle in Benidorm, explains that “given the coastal location of the city of Benidorm and its large tourist influx, it is crucial to implement water conservation measures. This campaign is one of the most proactive ways to raise awareness in the municipality about protecting its water resources in the event of a drought, as well as guaranteeing more sustainable tourism development.

For his part, Ciriaco Clemente, manager of Hidraqua in the Marina region, recognizes that it is necessary to convey a message from the institutions that are effective in terms of raising awareness. “To achieve this, we have this campaign that calls for the reuse of water, and the responsible use of water not only by residents of Benidorm but also by visitors,” says Ciriaco Clemente.

Gather support from citizens

The proposed campaign is intended to gather citizen support to prevent the increase in drought, as well as increase awareness of the special importance of preserving water throughout the year. To achieve this, Hidraqua has launched an initiative through different communication channels.

Hidraqua encourages citizens to follow these recommendations for responsible use of water. Knowing the idiosyncrasy of the territory the current drought situation, and the risk that this entails, Hidraqua requests the support of all citizens to help alleviate this situation by following the advice they offer.
