The exhibition brings together 83 engravings signed by the Aragonese painter between 1799 and 1824

This Friday, March 14, Boca del Calvari Museum opens its new exhibition: "Goya's Women," a selection of prints signed by the painter Francisco de Goya between 1799 and 1824, each with a common element: the presence of women. Ana Pellicer, Councilor for Historical and Cultural Heritage, stated that "this exhibition is an opportunity to enjoy the talent and genius of one of our most universal artists through his distinctive prints, a discipline he practiced frequently and in which he excelled."

Pellicer emphasized that "the exhibition curators, Marisa Oropesa and María Toral, offer us a very original way of approaching Goya's work, based on the representation of women over more than 25 years of his artistic career." Specifically, "Goya's Women" is composed of 83 prints from four different series: Los Caprichos (1799), La Tauromaquía (1814-1816), Los Desastres de la Guerra (1810-1820), and Los Disparates o Proverbios (1815-1824).

Using different techniques such as etching, aquatint, and drypoint, the Aragonese artist portrays social situations of his time in which women occupy center stage. The councilor elaborated that "in Goya's artistic production, women play a leading role. They are not relegated to the status of muse to which many artists relegated them throughout history, but rather have their own identity, weight, and relevance in the story or action that shape the work of art."

The exhibition will open on March 14 at 7:00 p.m. and will be open until June 22.
