La Barqueta celebrates Christmas with its traditional nativity scene of almost 400 figures
As is tradition every Immaculate Conception Day at six in the evening, the La Barqueta Cultural and Recreational Association opened its doors to residents and visitors so they could enjoy the nativity scene that the members of the group have been setting up over the past few weeks.
The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and the councillor for Fiestas, Mariló Cebreros, accompanied the adult and children's queens of the Patron Saint Festivals, Paula Pascual and Aitana Pérez, to La Barqueta's headquarters so that Aitana could light the nativity scene, open the doors, and welcome the residents.
Among those present were a large part of the municipal council, as well as regional deputy José Ramón González de Zárate and the president of the 2026 Commission, Ramón Cano, in addition to numerous residents who didn't want to miss the opportunity to see the new nativity scene, which features more than 60 new pieces and now has almost 400 figures. In addition to the nativity scene, La Barqueta treated visitors to pastries and mistela (a sweet liqueur) while traditional Christmas carols were played in the street by musicians playing the xirimita and tabalet (a type of flute and drum).
The nativity scene in La Barqueta is composed of approximately 400 pieces, some of them with movement. The recreation of the birth of Jesus includes typical scenes such as the Nativity itself, King Herod's castle, the Annunciation, the visit of the Magi, and depictions of trades from that era. The display can be visited until January 6th, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
