Benidorm nombra ‘Hijo Adoptivo’ a José Pedro Pérez-Llorca, uno de los ‘padres’ de la Constitución

Benidorm City Council will name 'Adopted Son' of the city to the lawyer José Pedro Pérez-Llorca, who died today in Madrid and who was one of the 'fathers' of the Spanish Constitution. This was agreed at noon by the Board of Spokespersons, with a recognition that is added to the Benidorm Corporate Medal that was granted in December 2017.

On behalf of the Corporation and the city, the mayor today lamented the death of Pérez-Llorca and has conveyed condolences to his family.

The mayor reiterated "the recognition of the entire municipal corporation and our city" to José Pedro Pérez-Llorca "for taking Benidorm to his heart, but above all for having contributed his talent to configure the constitutional framework that consolidated our democracy, betting on the coexistence and progress of Spain ".

Pérez-Llorca was one of the seven speakers of the Constitution approved in 1978. Deputy of the Union of the Democratic Center (UCD) for Madrid, was Minister of the Presidency, Territorial Administration and Foreign Affairs during the Governments of Adolfo Suárez and Leopoldo Calvo-Sotelo. In his time as a minister, he began negotiations for the accession of Spain to the European Union, and was one of the driving forces behind the entry of Spain into NATO.

Lawyer of recognized prestige and author of numerous publications, he had four honorary doctorates in Law from the UNED in Madrid, the University of León, the European University and the ICADE. In addition, the University of Cadiz invested him with such honor for being one of the rapporteurs of the Constitution.

Since 2012 he presided over the Board of the Prado Museum, and belonged to: the Arbitration Court of the Chamber of Commerce of Madrid (CACCM), the Civil and Commercial Court of Arbitration (CIMA), the International Chamber of Commerce (CCI), the Institute Private Law of Amsterdam, the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), the Arbitration Court of the Chamber of Commerce of Madrid (CACCM), the Civil and Commercial Court of Arbitration (CIMA), the International Chamber of Commerce (CCI), the Private Law Institute of Amsterdam, the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), and the American Arbitration Association (AAA).
