Among the three musical entities of Benidorm there are more than 500 students

Culture subsidizes with more than 31,600 euros to music schools and students

Cultura subvenciona con más de 31.600 euros a las escuelas de música y educandos

Benidorm City Council is going to subsidize with about 31,700 euros to the music schools and students of the three musical entities of the city, about 1,000 euros more than in 2020. The Local Government Board (JGL) has aproved today provisionally the granting of the aid that the Department of Culture has convened since 2016 to "support and promote the cultural work carried out by the three musical entities of the city by training future musicians of Benidorm", as recalled by the councillor of the department, Jaime Jesús Perez.

As the mayor has detailed, after evaluating the requests of each entity, the technical commission in charge of these grants has decided to grant Benidorm Musical Union and La Nova Musical Society the maximum eligible amount, 11,000 euros; while the l'Illa Musical Society will receive 9,680 euros.

Pérez has clarified that "the amount granted to each one is established based on objective criteria such as the number of student students, the staff of the band itself and the annual calculation of expenses related to the school." Some eligible expenses in which "this year we have included the disbursement made by the musical entities to adapt their classrooms to the health regulations by Covid-19 and thus guarantee the safety of the students."

In this regard, the Councilor for Culture has highlighted that “the effort, not only economic, made by the musical entities of Benidorm from June 2020 to recover their activity as soon as possible and in safe conditions, both in relation to rehearsals as well as classes and concerts, which allowed the city to enjoy different recitals throughout the summer, thus promoting culture ”.

In addition to paying for the expenses for the adaptation of the classrooms to the new health regulations, the amount granted can also be used to finance the student's own school, the acquisition and repair of computer instruments and equipment or to cover travel related to their activity.

The Councilor for Culture has recognized "the broad pedagogical action carried out by the three musical entities when training new generations of musicians in their classrooms"; and he has stressed that "between all of them there are more than 500 students being educated." “Many of these students -he pointed out- later go to the Municipal Conservatory 'José Pérez Barceló', to take professional degree courses and many join the city's bands to play 'amateur' or end up dedicating themselves professionally to music. music".
