Citizens will receive, with the water bill, a diptych with the measures to be adopted in the domestic sphere to combat this insect.

City Council and Hidraqua begin an information campaign to prevent the proliferation of the tiger mosquito

08 May 2020
Ayuntamiento e Hidraqua inician una campaña informativa para evitar la proliferación del mosquito tigre

Benidorm City Council and the water concessionaire, Hidraqua, repeat the campaign once again to inform citizens about how to combat the proliferation of the tiger mosquito (‘Aedes albopictus’). The Councilor for Health, Mónica Gómez, has stated that "beyond the actions carried out by the City Council in all public spaces and those carried out by Hidraqua in the sewage network and in the scuppers throughout the city, it is necessary that citizens also adopt measures in the domestic sphere, since 90% of the centers are located on private properties ”.

"Fighting the tiger mosquito is, therefore, a task in which we must all participate, and that is why we want the residents of Benidorm to know what are the measures to prevent the appearance or proliferation of this insect," she added. For this reason, one more year, together with the water bill, 25,000 information brochures will be sent with the most important measures to take at home to combat this species of mosquito, which is especially aggressive and whose bite can be very reactive.

Basically, the measures are to avoid small amounts of water in pots or other containers, since they are the most attractive places for the mosquito when it comes to depositing its eggs. It is also important to keep swimming pools and ornamental fountains in good hygienic-sanitary conditions and with the appropriate treatments, in addition to cleaning drains and gutters.

The councillor of Health has indicated that "if these tips are carefully followed, in a few weeks the number of mosquitoes will have greatly decreased"; although she pointed out that "these measures must be applied continuously in the coming months".
