El Moralet Park has proudly displayed the prestigious "Blue Trail Flag 2026" award for the second consecutive year, granted by the Association for Environmental Education and Consumer Protection (ADEAC) to the park's perimeter trail. The award recognizes the efforts dedicated to the recovery, maintenance, and enhancement of the trail by the Benidorm City Council. Mayor Toni Pérez, along with the councilors for the Environment and Parks and Gardens, Mónica Gómez and José Ramón González de Zárate, raised the environmental flag today at the entrance to El Moralet from the Vía Parque, in the presence of other council members and municipal staff.

The "Blue Trail Flag" award highlights the commitment of municipalities and public administrations to the recovery and enhancement of trails and paths that promote environmental education and the sustainable enjoyment of the environment. In the case of Benidorm, ADEAC has recognised “the conservation and restoration of trails and paths that have always been here, but which until a few years ago had never been cared for or valued, despite being one of the great green lungs of our municipality. This flag is a recognition of the high environmental value of this area,” Toni Pérez emphasised during the ceremony.

El Moralet, Pérez continued, has been transformed “into a very valuable space for interpretation and environmental education, and for the enjoyment of nature by residents and visitors” thanks to the actions carried out by the City Council in recent years. “Park users can carry out sustainable recreational, sporting, and tourist activities, and we can see that every day, many people enjoy this enclave, taking advantage of the opportunity to walk or play sports in this area at any time of year,” the mayor added. The Perimeter Trail allows visitors to enjoy the diverse landscapes, the natural richness, and the recreational areas that comprise it by connecting different points of the park along a route. circular.

To achieve the Blue Trail award, several criteria and indicators must be met, grouped into four categories: characteristics of the paths and routes; information, signage, and infrastructure on the paths; conservation and management of natural and cultural heritage; and public use of the paths.

Mónica Gómez explained that this perimeter path is “the only one recognised with the ‘Blue Trail Flag’ that runs entirely through an urban park and the only one located in such a large urban park with the dimensions of Moralet,” with more than one million square meters.

For his part, the head of Parks and Gardens, José Ramón González de Zárate, recalled that this green space was an area “completely degraded a few years ago, but with this administration we have made every possible effort to recover it and create a park that today is an example of sustainability, forest management, and environmental protection.” In fact, he continued, the park “has already established itself as a reality in respecting the nature and the enjoyment and accessibility for all audiences.”
