Benidorm will install new technological light points with free wifi access in commercial areas

11 July 2018
Benidorm instalará nuevos puntos de luz tecnológicos con acceso wifi gratuito en áreas comerciales

Benidorm has requested a grant to the Secretary of State to improve accessibility and safety in commercial areas with the installation of three technological light points and access control, at the confluences of Elche Park with Paseo de la Carretera, Mercado street with Tomás Ortuño and Gambo street. This has been announced this morning jointly by the councilors of Commerce, Ana Pellicer, and Urban Scene, José Ramón González de Zárate.

Ana Pellicer clarified that this grant, which was already given to Benidorm last year, will be processed through the Chamber of Commerce, which is the entity that channels grants to municipalities, consortiums and associations "to modernize and improve trade in the tourist areas ". Pellicer specified that the amount of the investment will be 96,771, 24 euros.

For his part, the councilman responsible for Urban Scene said that Benidorm "continues with its line of grants that are added to those already obtained with the Sustainable Urban Development Strategy (EDUSI), Heritage, cyclist ring or employment." A dynamic that allowed last year to improve the accessibility and the trees of Almendros street and that provides "a kinder feeling to the people who move around the commercial establishments". With last year's project, De Zárate recalled that a technological point could be installed in Neptuno square, with free Wi-Fi for any user.

De Zárate recalled that Benidorm already has seven of these technological points with free Wi-Fi access: Tomás Ortuño with Limones, in Hort de Colón, Limones with Almendros street, Neptuno square, two in Gerona street and another one at the confluence of Vicente Llorca Alós with Montbenidorm, in La Cala. "This year," González de Zárate said, "we want to put three more: in Gambo Street, in Martínez Alejos and in Paseo de la Carretera."

Improve security h4>

Councilman Urban Scene said that after the attacks last August in Barcelona, the Mobility Council "stipulated that we had to expand security measures in the city." In fact, garden boxes were installed in 2017. This year, the option chosen by the City Council will be that of folding pylons. Each pylon "will be monitored from the control center" which will allow the passage of service vehicles, garbage, glass collection, loading and unloading, etc. De Zárate anticipated that these pylons will be located at the confluence of Elche Park with Paseo de la Carretera, Mercado Street with Tomás Ortuño, and Gambo Street.
