In view of the first major holiday event of the year, the three accessible beach points will be operational in the morning
Benidorm reinforces lifeguard and cleaning services during Easter Holidays
Benidorm's beaches are ready for Easter, the first major holiday event of the year starting this weekend and that will bring thousands of tourists to the city. This was verified today by the mayor, Toni Pérez, and the councilor for Beaches, Mónica Gómez, who indicated that "as usual, during the next two weeks the rescue, first aid, and cleaning services will be reinforced to adjust them to the needs of the beaches on the occasion of Holy Week”.
Toni Pérez recalled that “Benidorm'beaches are one of the few on the Spanish coast that has a lifeguard and cleaning service twelve months a year; services that are increased or reinforced on the occasion of Easter and summer to thus meet the high demand that our sandbanks always register at these two moments in high season”.
During Holy Week, from April 3 to 17, lifeguard service is extended and it will be operational from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with 5 lifeguards in Poniente, another 5 in Levante, and one in Mal Pas. In addition, there will be two exclusive ambulances for the beaches, one in Levante and one in Poniente, and an aid point staffed by Nursing personnel in each of them. To this device, a boat equipped with a lifeguard and a skipper will be added from the water; and on land a coordinator and a beach manager.
Also during Holy Week, the three accessible beach points in the city will be operational, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., to facilitate swimming for people with mobility problems. At each of these points, there will be two lifeguards.
On the dates indicated, the police presence will also be greater, with 18 agents and a mayor who will pay special attention to the beaches daily. The Local Police boat will be operational, thus complementing that of the concessionary company for the comprehensive management of the beaches, while there will always be a patrol car in Levante and another in Poniente.
Regarding cleaning, human resources are reinforced to reach 24 people and the frequency of manual collection. Thus, there will be three cleaning shifts: morning –from 06:00 to 12:20-, afternoon – from 14:00 to 20:20- and night – from 21:00 to 03:20-. According to the figures transferred today by the mayor, in the morning shift, there will be a total of 11 operators; four, in the afternoon; and six, in the night strip. To this device is added mechanical cleaning with tractors, which will take place between 10:00 p.m. and 4:20 a.m., in which four more operators will participate.
The mayor recalled that “in recent weeks a series of actions have been carried out on our beaches, which are in a constant process of improvement and which offer the highest standards of quality and comfort throughout the year; some parameters that are guaranteed with the yearly renewal of the most demanding certifications in terms of beaches”, such as the recently obtained S for Tourism Sustainability granted by the ICTE, the Q for Quality (ISO 13009) from the same organization; ISO 9001 and 1400 and the EMAS Regulation; or the Universal Accessibility badges based on the UNE-170000-1 and 170000-2 standards
Among the actions carried out on the beaches, there is the installation of new recycling bins that allow the separation of waste at source and that have more capacity than those that existed until now. The lifeguard chairs have also been renovated on the Levante (3), Poniente (3), and Mal Pas (1) beaches; while the replacement of the walkways of the accessible beaches point of Elche Park is finalized, the one that accumulates the most visits throughout the year. Also in the vicinity of this point, arrangements have been made at the aid station.
Toni Pérez pointed out that "occupation and activity forecasts for Easter that are transferred from the tourism sector are very positive" and "we are convinced that these expectations will not only be achieved but even improve, since the weather forecast for the coming weeks it is very good which, without a doubt, will boost last minute bookings”.
"Benidorm's beaches, as always, will be up to the task, offering users the best experience, the best services, and the highest quality", he underlined.
