Benidorm is putting out to tender the renovation of Roma Avenue, which gains accessibility and pedestrian space

Benidorm City Council has put out to tender the work of 'Renovation of drinking water and sanitation infrastructures in Roma Avenue', which in addition to improving the entire hydraulic network also includes the adaptation of the urban scene, roads and sidewalks, gaining in accessibility and space for pedestrians. The Councilor for Works and the Water Cycle, José Ramón González de Zárate, has reported that “this project, valued at around 700,000 euros, plans to operate throughout the length of the avenue and is financed by the 2020-2027 Renovation Fund of the water contract ”.

De Zárate pointed out that “with this action on Roma Avenue, we are making progress in the renovation, updating and improvement of the urban scene and infrastructures in the upper part of Rincón de Loix, one of the commitments that the local government has adopted with neighbors and the productive fabric of this neighborhood, with a marked residential and tourist character ”. The councillor recalled that "it is at this time, and after having resolved the historical flood problems with the remodeling of Ametlla del Mar avenue, when we can begin to act in the upper area of ​​Rincón de Loix, where we have already acted in Londres and Paris streets ”.

The person in charge of Works explained that "the approved project contemplates renovating all hydraulic infrastructures, acting on the drinking, residual and rainwater networks, and also significantly improving aesthetics, lighting and, above all, accessibility".

At the hydraulic level, it is planned to update the drinking water network, and the construction of a new collector for wastewater and another for rainwater, which will allow the progressive capture of rain avoiding its accumulation in the streets of the lower part . De Zárate has pointed out that "investment and action in the subsoil is key to improving the supply of drinking water and sewerage throughout the environment."

Already on the surface, the mayor has detailed that "in the design of the renovated avenue the pedestrian has been taken into account, significantly increasing the size of the sidewalks that, depending on the section, will have a minimum width of 2.25 meters ”. De Zárate, stressed that "in addition to expanding the pedestrian area, a green area will be generated that will run parallel to the south side of the avenue, improving the aesthetics and comfort of the avenue." This garden area "is prepared for tomorrow to host a mechanical ramp to further improve accessibility to the upper part of Rincón de Loix from Ametlla del Mar".

In addition, the transition to LED technology is completed throughout the public lighting network and the road will be renewed.

According to the mayor, the improvements included in the contract also reach neighboring streets such as Paris, Stockholm or London –where a new collector has been included-. In addition, it has advanced that work is already being done on the renovation projects of Stockholm and Montecarlo avenues, with the aim of being able to tackle these actions next year and "thus complete the improvement of this entire area."

The deadline for submitting offers is February 8.
