The new action focuses on Levante area and has a grant of 400,000 euros from the Feder funds
Benidorm opens the tender of works of another 11 km of bike lanes and raises its cycle ring to 80 km
At the proposal of the Department of Contracting of Lourdes Caselles and in compliance with the agreement reached with the Municipal Group of Ciudadanos (Cs), the Local Government Board has approved the bidding for the work contract for the "cyclist ring" project in Levante. For its execution an expense of 984,128 euros, including VAT, is authorized. Interested companies can consult the conditions of this open tender in the Contractor Profile of the municipal website benidorm.org. The term of execution of the works is 5 months and the presentation of offers ends on October 25.
The works, as commented by the councilman of Mobility and Urban Scene, José Ramón González de Zárate, is expected to start in November, so that they will coincide in time with the remodeling of the first phase of Avenida del Mediterráneo . The latter, as González de Zárate explained, "will go slightly ahead of those of the cyclist ring and will allow us to patrol the works, concentrating the work of both projects and that the unavoidable inconveniences in all public works are the least possible and last at least possible".
The works of the first phase of Avenida del Mediterráneo provide for the complete renovation of the surface and the subsoil from Puente Street to Avenida de Europa. In addition, the project includes the remodeling of these two roads, the pending section of Doctor Pérez Llorca Street, and also Valencia Street, Bilbao Avenue and Emilio Romero Street.
On the other hand, the start-up of the works of the "cyclist ring" of Levante will mean the creation of another 11 kilometers that will be added to the cycling network of Benidorm. The lanes that are projected with this work cover the route that there is from the roundabout of Comunidad Europea with Europa Avenue to the Hermitage of Sanz, through the old N-332, and will link with the section made by Diputación de Alicante in the CV-753, the road that connects with l'Albir. The one that opens the tender now also contemplates the improvement of the two entrances of Benidorm from Altea and l'Alfàs del Pi. In addition to the works of the roads, the project includes the installation of new lighting and signaling systems.
In the avenues Comunidad Valenciana and Atmirall Bernat de Sarrià, at the proposal of Ciudadanos, the bike lane will be installed on the sides of the road since it will have a cyclopedestrian character, while on Avenida de Europa it will be traced by the center of the road following the model of Alfonso Puchades or Jaime I. In L'Ametlla del Mar, Doctor Severo Ochoa, Estocolmo, Monte Carlo, Rumanía, Marsella and Nápoles, the model of a bicycle lane marked with red lines in the middle of the road will be installed.
For the execution of this project, the City Council obtained a grant of 400,000 euros from the Feder funds and with these new 11 kilometers, it will reach a total of 80 kilometers of bike lanes and cycle paths. The claim, according to González de Zárate, is that Benidorm reaches 100 kilometers of vials destined or reserved for the use of bicycles.
