The works have made it possible to have a "completely accessible" street with new trees, tree pits and street furniture

Benidorm completes the works on Denia street while carrying out other improvement actions on various roads in La Cala

Benidorm finaliza las obras de la calle Denia mientras ejecuta otras actuaciones de mejora en varías vías de La Cala

Benidorm City Council has already completed the renovation and improvement of accessibility work on Denia Street, in the La Cala neighbourhood, which has accessible pavements, greater width and new trees and street furniture. The councillors for Works and Citizen Participation, José Ramón González de Zárate, visited the area this morning, as part of the 'A pie de calle' campaign, accompanied by the vice presidents of the Neighborhood Council, Teresa Garrido and Manuel Sánchez Notario, as well as neighbours from the neighbourhood

The works on Calle Denia have finished once the rainy episode has passed, which prevented completion a few days earlier. Ana Pellicer recalled that these works are due "to an express request from the neighbours to improve accessibility" and underlined "the great change that the street has undergone since the last time we came in terms of the width of the sidewalks, the new trees, the elimination of bollards or the new rubber pits”. The single platform has also been implemented on the street "to give prominence to the neighbours and pedestrian traffic".

Before the municipal action, this road presented "many obstacles and difficulties to walk due to the existence of bollards and trees that caused people to have to get off the sidewalk when walking," González de Zárate indicated.

The work was included in the Accessibility Plan, endowed with one million euros, and which involves carrying out actions in various parts of the city. In the case of Denia street, the work has been developed on the right sidewalk of the street and has covered the entire length of it in order to be "completely accessible" the mayor has specified.

González de Zárate has also specified that the City Council is also acting in streets such as Marina Alta, Marina Baixa, Langreo or Aigües "with which we have given a spectacular turn to the upper part of La Cala from the limit with the municipality of Finestrat to the avenue of the Murtal”.

"We can say that in these years of the legislature the neighbourhood of La Cala has been completely renovated, improving the image and the urban scene, in addition to having left a completely accessible neighbourhood," said González de Zárate.

The current works in these streets consist of the renovation of the sewage network "but above all in the improvement of accessibility and the urban scene with new pits, benches and litter bins", actions that will be complemented with the program of the Institute for the Diversification and Energy Saving (IDAE) "which will arrive in this neighbourhood next year."

To do this, the City Council "is leaving the power lines ready for when the new streetlights and lights arrive." In this sense, the councillor has highlighted the importance of these visits with the neighbours "because thanks to his requests and after the relevant technical reports, all these actions can be undertaken."

'A pie de calle' campaign will move next week to Foietes neighbourhood, where actions are also being carried out to improve accessibility, pavement and street furniture.
