On the first avenue it is intended to renew the sewerage collector; and on the second avenue, implement a rainwater network to prevent flooding on rainy days

Benidorm asks Alicante Provincial Council for subsidies to improve the water infrastructures on the avenues Emilio Romero and Catalán Chana

Benidorm solicita a Diputación subvenciones para mejorar las infraestructuras hídricas en las avenidas Emilio Romero y Catalán Chana

Benidorm City Council has requested two grants to continue improving the city's water infrastructure, such as those of Periodista Emilio Romero and Alcalde Manuel Catalán Chana avenues.

As reported by the Councilor for the Water Cycle, José Ramón González de Zárate, “at Periodista Emilio Romero we want to act on the sewage network by renewing the current collector, which clogs quite frequently; while in Alcalde Catalán Chana Avenue we are going to install a rainwater collection network to prevent the lower part of this avenue from flooding on days when it rains heavily”.

"Ultimately," he indicated, "it is a matter of resolving situations and problems that at a given moment may affect the service or the movement of vehicles and people, and at the same time make our water network as efficient as possible."

In the case of Avenida Periodista Emilio Romero, a road with "very old sewage", the project drawn up by municipal technicians plans to act on the section that reaches the beachfront. The action consists of renewing the street collector and moving it under the road since it is currently in the sidewalk area, which makes it difficult to act when some type of breakdown or repair occurs. This work amounts to 53,349.83 euros and its execution is estimated in one month.

The planned investment on Catalán Chana Avenue is estimated at 121,843.67 euros. An investment with which action will be taken in the initial section of the road, the one that connects with Madrid Avenue and with Bonn, where a collector will be built and scuppers will be made to collect rainwater and prevent its accumulation at the junction with the Paseo de Levante and that reaches the beach. According to the technicians, these works can be completed in a month.

González de Zárate explained that "for a municipality the size of Benidorm, the line of subsidies launched by the Provincial Council provides aid for 50% of the cost of the works, so that the total investment that the City Council would be a little less than 88,000 euros, instead of 175,000.

The councillor stressed that "in the last eight years the investment of the City Council to improve hydraulic infrastructures has been constant in all the neighborhoods of Benidorm, which has resulted in a better service for citizens, in management systems and a network much more efficient and in a significant improvement of the urban scene, since each work that we have done in the subsoil has also resulted in an improvement of the image of each street on the surface”.

Likewise, he stressed that "we continue to work in Rincón de Loix, where right now we are renovating Montecarlo avenue, after having carried out works in Ametlla del Mar, Juan Fuster Zaragoza, London or Paris in recent years".

González de Zárate transferred that "we hope that the Provincial Council solves this in the next two months in order to start both works in September."
