Olvido Gara receives the 'City of Benidorm' Tourism award
Alaska, fan of Benidorm
The 'City of Benidorm' Tourism award recognizes the contribution to the tourism industry and its link with the city to people, institutions, and companies. On this occasion, Alaska reached it (together with Màxim Huerta), the public corporation RTVE and the Hotel Don Pancho in an edition that also awarded a Special Mention to the president of Hosbec and director of Port Hotels, Toni Mayor.
Despite not being able to attend the event, Alaska sent an emotional video message to all attendees, and the organization of the event, according to the artist, moved the award ceremony to yesterday evening.
Olvido Gara, now released from her commitments, after an intense day of work for a RTVE program in Benidorm, entered the Plenary Hall of the City Council, flanked by the mayor, Toni Pérez, after 7:00 p.m. She was received there by the Municipal Corporation and dozens of neighbors who, from early in the afternoon, waited to honor the artist.
The councilor for Festivals and Events, Jesús Carrobles and the provincial deputy, José Ramón González de Zárate, were present. Likewise, the queens of the Festes Majors Patronals, Aila Merenciano and Chloe D'Hebboudt; the president of the Commission, José Vicente Fuster; or the also awarded this year, Toni Mayor, among other representatives of civil society.
Alaska received, from the hands of Toni Pérez, the prize: a methacrylate urn with sand from the beaches of Benidorm. Grateful, I show it to the attendees, and they, with their applause, evidenced their support for the artist who, throughout her career, has shown her love for the city, which has been reflected in numerous references and winks both in her individual interventions or with Fangoria, a group that he leads together with Nacho Canut.
After receiving the trophy, Olvido Gara recalled some of the moments of her close relationship with Benidorm, whose last stage is Benidorm Fest. Thus, he recalled the recording in 2011 at Benidorm Palace of the album 'Operación Vodevil', the documentary ' Cualquier día en Benidorm, or the long-playing 'Edificaciones Paganas', from 2020, which, on its cover, moves the famous 'skyline ' Benidorm.
For his part, Toni Pérez recognized Alaska's commitment to Benidorm, whom he described as a "huge prescriber" of the city. The mayor valued the contribution of the winner with "the projection" of the tourist destination at the national level and treated the artist "a great fan of Benidorm", shortly before encouraging all attendees to share the moment with her, remembering that “artists owe their audience”.
After the brief intervention of Toni Pérez, loud applause preceded an intense photo session of the singer, actress, composer, businesswoman, writer, musical producer, and television presenter with all the people who came to immortalize the moment. With affection, closeness, and sympathy, Alaska attended to all the requests of her admirers.
