The Benidorm library opens its 'Pink Bow' space with specific bibliography on breast cancer
The Department of Historical Heritage, Anémona, and the Department of Equality have today presented the new space of the Municipal Library of Benidorm which, under the name 'Pink Bow', will offer specific bibliography related to breast cancer. The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, together with the councilors of both areas, Ana Pellicer and Ángela Zaragozí, have been accompanied by members of Anémona, a self-help group for women with breast and gynecological cancer of the Marina Baixa, with its president María Bottle to the head.
This space, which will be installed permanently in the library, initially has 95 copies related to different aspects of the disease: from the psychological aspect to food and nutrition, passing through prevention, treatment, sports support, comics, novels, or even aimed at children to help them cope with and understand the disease. The section is open to the incorporation of new funds and can be consulted at http://xlpv.gva.es/cginet-bin/abneto?SUBC=BENI.
Toni Pérez has valued “Anémona's tireless work for twenty years to be the support of many women; a work that we will always support in everything that they need and that has managed to win the hearts of all”.
Ángela Zaragozí has highlighted that "it is about providing a space in the library where women who wish to can find answers to their questions through these books"; while Ana Pellicer has emphasized that "this bibliographical selection has been made by Anémona to make it as complete as possible" and stressed that "it will be a permanent space in our library".
For her part, María Botella thanked "the support we always receive from the City Council" and added that "we consider it essential for women with cancer to have access to books where they can find answers to all the questions we ask ourselves and that, many times, we don't we want to express them to those around us.”
The activities scheduled by Anémona continue today at 6:00 p.m. in the multipurpose room of the El Torrejó municipal building, which will host the reading of the manifesto for International Breast Cancer Day, by the Doctor of Psychology Mª Pilar Barreto, Professor at the University Valencia specialized in the role of psychology in cancer treatment.
On Sunday 23, the Solidarity March will be held, in which the participation of thousands of people is expected to travel the little more than 3 km that separate Plaza de SS. MM. Los Reyes de España and Paseo de Tamarindos and the subsequent return, with a detour to Bilbao Avenue where you can recharge your batteries and taste one of the typical rice dishes of the area.
Anémona, which celebrates its twentieth anniversary this year, has more than 500 members throughout the region. Its central objective is to attend to the sick person who has specific needs and who, in addition to the clinic, requires psychological or social help. The association is integrated into FECMA, the Spanish Federation of Breast Cancer.
