‘Concierto Homenaje a la Mujer Compositora’ en Benidorm con motivo del 8M

Rafael Doménech Pardo Auditorium at Benidorm Cultural Centre hosted the "Tribute Concert to Women Composers" this afternoon, a performance included in the program organised by Benidorm City Council's Departments of Culture, Education, and Equality to commemorate International Women's Day.

The recital featured various ensembles from José Pérez Barceló Municipal Professional Music Conservatory, who presented a repertoire dedicated entirely to female composers, highlighting their historical and artistic contributions to the musical landscape.

The Jazz Group, directed by Manuel Cordero, performed "Bésame Mucho" by Consuelo Velázquez, arranged by Lolo García, and "Dos Gardenias" by Isolina Carrillo, arranged by Manuel Cordero himself. The Elementary School Choir performed ‘E Malama’ by Janice Diederich and ‘Je vole’ by Louane Emara, conducted by Celia Torá.

Following this, the Choir and Band of the 1st and 2nd year Professional Music Degree students, under the direction of Celia Torá, a recent addition to the faculty, performed ‘La maleta invisible’ by María José Belenguer. The concert concluded with a performance by the 3rd to 6th year Band, who, accompanied by the choir, played ‘Femme força’ by Merche Lidó, as well as ‘Stachel’ and ‘Cleopatra’, both compositions by Amparo Edó, under Torá's direction.

The event was attended by the councilors for Education and Equality, Maite Moreno and Ángela Zaragozí, other members of the municipal corporation, the regional deputy, José Ramón González de Zárate, and the director of the Municipal Professional Conservatory of Music ‘José Pérez Barceló’, Raúl Mahiques, who have supported with their presence this cultural initiative dedicated to recognising and making visible the female talent in musical composition.
