Sanidad launches anti-rabies vaccination campaign in collaboration with veterinary clinics in Benidorm

24 May 2017
Sanidad pone en marcha la campaña de vacunación antirrábica en colaboración con las clínicas veterinarias de Benidorm

Owners will be able to deworm and vaccinate their pets from 1 to 15 June

The Anti-rabies Vaccination Campaign, which will be launched by the Department of Health in collaboration with the seven veterinary clinics in Benidorm, will take place between 1 and 15 June. During this period the interested people will be able to go with their pets to any of these centers to vaccinate them. The objective of this initiative is to obtain the complete vaccination coverage of dogs, cats and ferrets of the municipality, an essential measure to continue maintaining the effective and preventive control of rabies

This campaign is carried out in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment, Climate Change and Rural Development, which establishes mandatory rabies vaccination of dogs, cats and ferrets. The sanitary recommendation is that the vaccine be applied annually, although the current regulation establishes the obligatoriedad with a periodicity that depends on the type of immunization supplied, when the animals have antecedent of vaccination, between the three and four months of life, and a posterior dose The year of the first.

To benefit from this campaign, dogs must have implanted the mandatory microchip of identification and the veterinary passport, which is not mandatory in the case of cats and ferrets. In addition to the rabies vaccine, pets will receive a preventive antiparasitic treatment against the Hidatídico Cyst. The cost for the user of this service will be only 17 euros.

From the Department of Health have pointed out that this campaign format, launched in Benidorm since 2011, "is a success." In this period "there has been a substantial increase in vaccinated animals, multiplying the average of previous years". It has also increased "the degree of satisfaction of pet owners who can treat them at a lower cost than the rest of the year."

Benidorm City Hall thanks all the veterinary clinics in the municipality that, once again, have joined the campaign and collaborate decisively in the health care of pets. During these fifteen days they give up part of their usual minutes since the medication is not subject to any public subsidy.
