The Regional Government authorizes the City Council to remove the cover of asbestos cement of the dining and gym in Vasco Nuñez de Balboa school

The department of Education has reiterated this offer in recent months and will take charge of the costs of  works

The mayor announces that the project will be implemented during school Christmas holidays

The Territorial Directorate of Education has authorized Benidorm City Council to perform the works of replacing the roof of asbestos cement of the gym and dining room of Vasco Núñez de Balboa school. It was the mayor and councillor for Education, Toni Pérez, who moved the news to the media calling it "capital for the educational community and ensure that our schools meet the highest safety conditions" . The authorization was received today via email and comes after requests submitted by the City Council and permanent contacts from the department of Education with the Regional Directorate. Both, the execution of the work and the project will be assumed by the City Council, while the Territorial Directorate, through the Technical Unit, will oversee the design and execution of work. The mayor expressed his appreciation for the fact that the administration has finally authorized the completion of  the work in which the municipal government has been working for more than six months.

The City Council already has experience in implementing such projects. A project that has the corresponding favorable technical reports and which have already received four proposals whose budgets range between 25,000 and 34,000 euros. Although the City will prepare the document imminently, it is expected the Local Government to approve it next Monday, the start of work will be at the expense of receiving authorization from the Territorial Directorate of Labour due to the nature of the cement materials that will retire in the replacement work. Toni Pérez said he had already contacted the school board to coordinate and reach consensus about the initiation and development of works with the school calendar, with the aim of affecting as little as possible the development of the course and school activities. The mayor said that the latest, those jobs would be held during school Christmas holidays, but the City Council is open to any proposal that the educational community and the School Council wants to get on the possibility to work on another date . "Our priority in this issue, 'said the mayor, in order to ensure security, tranquility and comfort of the educational community."
