Artists and fans intervene around 80 litter bins on the beaches that were going to be removed and which will now be given a second life
Parc de Foietes hosts a festive morning focused on sustainability and urban art
This Saturday, Parc de Foietes in Benidorm was the scene of a festive morning that revolved around sustainability and urban art and attracted several hundred people to this green space, who braved the heat to participate in one way or another in it. The 'First Urban Art Day', organized jointly by the Departments of Beaches and Environment and Historical and Cultural Heritage, was the last of the events organized this week by Benidorm City Council to commemorate World Environment Day Atmosphere.
The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and the councillors of the two responsible departments, Mónica Gómez and Ana Pellicer, have been part of this celebration along with other members of the Municipal Corporation. Among them, is the regional deputy José Ramón González de Zárate. Everyone has contributed leaving their mark in the collective graffiti that has been made on one of the canvases set up for the public and that will remain as a memory of this 'First Urban Art Day'.
As already mentioned in the presentation of this day, professionals and spray painting enthusiasts have intervened in around 80 litter bins that this year have been removed from the beaches having been replaced by new ones, after having ended their useful life. "As they were in good condition, we thought about different formulas to give them a second life and it occurred to us that a good way could be to make them available to urban artists so that they could paint them and take them back to the beaches to be exhibited before the thousands and thousands of people who visit us every year,” recalled the Councilor for Beaches and the Environment.
Mónica Gómez has explained that, once we have intervened with the different artistic proposals and when the painting has already settled, "we will place them again on the beaches with their new image as an attraction", while the one that obtains the most votes from the public will be the image of the poster announcing the event that will be held next year.
For her part, the councillor for Historical and Cultural Heritage recalled that this proposal “not only fits perfectly with our commitment to sustainability and care for the environment, but it is also another leg of the project that we have been developing for some time. to make Benidorm an open-air museum and open it to all types of artists so that the city as a whole is a great exhibition hall.” For this reason, Pellicer thanked “all those who presented their proposals and came today to participate in this 'First Urban Art Day' for their collaboration” and highlighted that this project “was born to stay and we are going to continue promoting it with new projects” and new editions.”
In addition to the intervention of these nearly 80 litter bins, various parallel activities were carried out throughout the morning. Among them, DJ music, live performances, cap or sneaker customization workshops, or urban dance exhibitions by Boogie Block Academy, have also captured the public's attention.
