The municipal corporation observes a minute of silence for the murdered woman in Telde

With this crime, there are already 18 victims of gender violence in our country so far in 2017

Benidorm City Council has observed a minute of silence today in memory of the 23-year-old woman who was murdered in the locality of Gran Canaria in Telde. An act in which members of the municipal corporation, with the first deputy mayor, Ana Pellicer, and the councillor of Equality, Angela Llorca, at the head, have expressed their revulsion before the macho violence. This symbolic gesture took place at noon, in front of the main door of the City Council, where neighbors and municipal workers have also met.

The murdered woman was found dead on Friday by agents in the trunk of a vehicle after the alleged murderer, her 34-year-old partner, confessed the crime to the National Police. Sources close to the victim's family have pointed out that the woman had expressed her intention to put an end to the relationship she had with the abuser.

With this, there would already be 18 victims of gender-based violence in Spain so far this year, 19 if the case that is still being investigated in Pontevedra is confirmed, according to statistics from the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality. Angela Llorca said that "it is terrible to have to regret once again the death of another woman" and has insisted that the current situation of sexist violence "is something that society should no longer support." In this regard, she reiterated the usefulness of the emergency telephone number against mistreatment and gender violence, 016, which leaves no trace in the telephone bill.
