Children, between 10 and 16 years old, participate in games, workshops, visits to the beach or the pool and excursions, in an educational leisure proposal that allows to reconcile family and working life

More than 140 children and adolescents participate in the Summer Youth Program

Más de 140 niños y adolescentes participan en el Programa de Verano de Juventud

A total of 144 children and teenagers from Benidorm are participating during July and August in the Summer Programme organised by the Youth Department to offer an educational leisure proposal aimed at the public aged 10 to 16 which also facilitates the conciliation of families. The Mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, together with the Councillor for Youth, Ana Soliveres, visited this Wednesday the facilities of the Leonor Canalejas public school, the base of operations for this programme, to share impressions with the participants and the four monitors who manage the activity.

The Summer Youth Programme takes place from Monday to Friday during the two central summer months, in three two-week shifts and with 48 minors per fortnight, divided by age in groups of 12 people per group.

These days, young people participate in different types of workshops, including robotics, recycling, crafts, etc., as well as board and outdoor games, water games, hiking, visits to the beach or the municipal swimming pool, and cultural excursions. Mayor Toni Pérez has highlighted that, once again this year, “from the City Council we make available to families a proposal aimed at children and adolescents so that they can fill the free time that summer offers them with leisure activities and with which, in addition, they learn new things in a very playful and fun way”. He also highlighted “the richness of sharing these days with other people of the same age but who come from different schools or institutes”,  and “for many families in our city it is a wonderful option to be able to reconcile work and family life”.

For her part, the Councillor for Youth indicated that, after the young people who participated in the first fortnight, “we are currently almost halfway through the second shift, which will last until 16 August”, after which “there will be another third shift between 19 and 30 August”. Ana Soliveres has recalled that thanks to the contributions of the City Council and the Ivaj, participation for each fortnight has a price of 35 euros per child, making it “an affordable proposal for most households” and which fulfils a double objective: “That the kids have an educational, recreational and healthy leisure offer and, at the same time, that families who do not have holidays these days have another resource at their disposal to take their children”.

In addition to this Summer Programme, Benidorm City Council offers many other resources during July and August to promote conciliation. Among them, are the Summer School, which this year is held at CEIP Serra d’Aitana; the Summer Educational Support Programme (PAEV), which takes place at CEIP Leonor Canalejas; and the municipal sports schools.
