‘María’ y ‘Silvia’, two sculptures with a woman's face 7 meters, will be exhibited at Santa Ana square from next Monday until September 25

Monumental art comes to El Castell by the artist Jaume Plensa and Hortensia Herrero Foundation

31 March 2023
El arte monumental llega a El Castell de la mano del artista Jaume Plensa y de la Fundación Hortensia Herrero.

After settling on Paseo de Poniente, Plaza de la Hispanidad, Avenida del Mediterráneo, and Calle Gambo, monumental art now comes to El Castell, in this case by the multifaceted artist Jaume Plensa and the Hortensia Herrero Foundation. In recent days, the preliminary work has begun at Plaza de Santa Ana, before El Castell, of two large sculptures signed by the Catalan artist, which will be exhibited from next Monday, April 3, until April 25. of September.

These are the sculptures 'Silvia' and 'María', two women's heads 7 meters high made of cast iron and which are part of the art collection of the Hortensia Herrero Foundation and the Mercadona company.

The Councilor for Historical and Cultural Heritage, Ana Pellicer, has transferred that "this exhibition arises from the public-private collaboration in which the City Council and the Hortensia Herrero Foundation converge a common interest: that of promoting art and culture by bringing them closer to the citizenship". At this point, Pellicer thanked the Foundation and Mercadona for "the temporary transfer of these sculptures" and for "thinking of Benidorm to exhibit these works by Jaume Plensa, an artist recognized with the National Plastic Arts Award."

The councillor has stressed that "in recent years, Benidorm has explored its immense potential as a great open-air museum, consolidating itself as a benchmark among cities that are committed to placing art at street level, making it emerge to meet the viewer".

An open-air museum, he added, that "is gaining exhibition spaces" and that "this time it reaches what is almost certainly the most visited enclave in our city, El Castell, through which thousands of visitors pass daily people who during the next five months will live the experience of discovering 'Silvia' and 'María' while contemplating one of the best views of Benidorm”. An experience that Pellicer invited the public "to share already this coming Monday at noon, accompanying us at the opening of the exhibition."

Before visiting Benidorm, 'Silvia' and 'María' have been exhibited in various cities in the Valencian Community, in an artistic patronage project of the Hortensia Herrero Foundation.
