There are already 29 women murdered in 2022 and the Department of Equality reminds the free telephone number 016 to help victims

Minute of silence in Benidorm to condemn the latest crime of sexist violence

15 September 2022
Minuto de silencio en el Ayuntamiento de Benidorm.

Benidorm City Council has celebrated a minute of silence this afternoon in the Plaza SSMM Reyes de España to condemn the latest crime of sexist violence that has taken place in Zaragoza, in the town of Escatrón, and which brings the number of murdered women to 29 by their partners or ex-partners in Spain so far in 2022, and 1,159 since 2003, the year in which victims of gender-based violence began to be counted.

The mayor, Toni Pérez, and the mayor of Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, have led this silent concentration in which members of the corporation, municipal workers and neighbours have participated. The victim has been a 71-year-old woman, who was murdered last Saturday by her ex-partner, who had a restraining order and had already been reported for breaching it last July.

The Department of Equality recalls that the City Council has personnel specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, it reiterates once again that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to eliminate it from the mobile call log. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year and in 52 languages.
