Minute of silence in Benidorm to condemn the last five cases of sexist violence

26 September 2018
Minuto de silencio en Benidorm para condenar los cinco últimos casos de violencia machista

Benidorm has observed once again a minute of silence at the gates of the City Council to condemn gender violence and in memory of the last five victims of this social scourge. In the last hours it has been confirmed as a case of male violence the murder of a woman at the hands of her ex-partner in Úbeda, Jaen. Another case has taken place in the town of Maracena, Granada, where a 39-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her 49-year-old ex-partner. In Bilbao, a 25-year-old Senegalese girl has been slaughtered by her partner in front of her young daughters; and in Castellón, a 48-year-old man has stabbed his two daughters, ages 2 and 6, to death. The aggressor, who was in the process of divorce, committed suicide minutes later.

The first deputy mayor of Benidorm, Ana Pellicer along with the councillor of Equality, Paquita Ripoll, have joined the act to condemn gender violence several councilors of different groups of the corporation, residents and municipal workers.

In the current year 2018 there are already 37 women murdered in our country because of gender violence and 21 children have been orphaned. The Department of Equality reminds citizens that, before any suspicion of sexist violence,  they can phone the toll-free telephone number 016, a number that is not reflected in the telephone bill but it should be deleted later from the call register of the mobile phone.
