The Local Police promotes a course on drug detection in driving

02 June 2017
La Policía Local promueve un curso sobre detección de drogas en la conducción

Part of the training will consist of checks on the public thoroughfare and will involve 30 agents from all over the province

The Department of Public Security and Benidorm Local Police will collaborate with the Professional Union of Police and Firemen (SPPLB) in the organization of the course 'Drug detection in driving' to be held in Benidorm between 5 and June 9 in which a selection of 30 local police of the entire province of Alicante will participate and which will also attend members of the Neighborhood Council.

The Councilor for Citizen Security, Lorenzo Martínez, accompanied by the SPPLB secretary, Francisco Ángel González, have presented this morning a course that aims to "train our agents with the purpose of reducing accidents in public roads," said the councillor, with a special emphasis on detecting the phenomenon of drug use of different types of combined substances. "For the government team," said Lorenzo Martínez, "the training of our agents of the Local Police is essential for them to act with the greatest professionalism."

It should be remembered that the penalty for drivers who give a positive result in drug use is 1,000 euros and the withdrawal of 6 points in the driving license, however, Martínez has clarified that behind this training action "there is no anxiety collecting "but it is done in the interest of public awareness so that people under the influence of drugs, do not take a vehicle. "

For his part, Francisco Ángel González has said that the course will be taught by the technician and also police officer, Rubén Martínez and will have the collaboration of the doctor, expert in drug addiction, Tamara Rojas. During the conference the effects of medication on driving will be discussed and how are the signs that detect the influence of drugs behind the wheel.

Drogotest

González has announced that the course will have a practical part that will consist of two police controls "with four different devices approved" in the public highway "where they will be instructed" in the use of 'Drogotest', the substance identifier by means of immunoreactive strips capable of detecting "with a degree of reliability of 100% up to 10 kinds of drugs": amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methamphetamines, methadone, opiates, phencyclidine, propoxyphene and tetrahydrocynabinole. The trade unionist has asked the City Council that the Local Police in Benidorm can have this system shortly, to which the councilor has said that "will be studied" based on the results obtained during the course.
