The Provincial Council assumes the drafting of the project to channel the last section of El Murtal ravine

02 June 2017
Diputación asume la redacción del proyecto para encauzar el último tramo del barranco El Murtal

Benidorm asks the Provincial Council for a subsidy for a storm drain in Juan Fuster Zaragoza that will also end flooding in that area

The Provincial Council of Alicante will assume the drafting of the project to channel the last section of the ravine El Murtal, in the area of La Cala. The provincial body has included Benidorm in a line of grant and will allocate 13,000 euros to hire a company that is responsible for drafting this project. A project that will prevent flooding in this point of La Cala when it rains with some intensity and damages Poniente beach.

The councilor for Water Cycle, José Ramón González de Zárate, has indicated that "the main lines" of this channeling project "have been marked by municipal technicians" and are "very much in line with the action that has been taken in Orts Llorca ", with" underground piping ", including" improving the urban scene "and the installation of" reservoirs that collect rainwater for reuse for irrigation or flushing. "

The stretch in which it is proposed to act is about 190 meters and runs from the existing metal pipeline at the height of the Murtal tunnels to the mouth of the Poniente beach. This project, therefore, affects the entire Murtal street, "the first and one of the few that we have to close when it rains with some force."

Zárate stressed that this channel is "fundamental" to avoid these cuts of streets and affections to the beach, and added that "we want to get the project written by the end of the year to 2018 have the feasibility of getting into work".

On the other hand, the councillor has announced that next Monday the Local Government Board will approve to ask the Provincial Council another subsidy linked to hydraulic works. In this case, it is the installation of a collector in the avenue Juan Fuster Zaragoza, which hooks with the existing one in the Barranco Barceló.

This collector would collect all the rainwater that can not absorb the Atmella del Mar Avenue, thus avoiding flooding in the roadway and in the basements and garages of the area. De Zárate has pointed out that until Atmella del Mar is remodeled - for which a subsidy has also been requested from the provincial agency - this collector "would remove the important problem" that generates the bad state of the rains of the whole avenue that cannot assume the runoff of the streets Paris, Viena and Londres.

The work is valued at about 100,000 euros and in case of receiving the grant would be executed this same year.
