These visits are part of the commemorative events for the 182nd anniversary of the founding of the Corps, whose official ceremony is being held this Saturday

Benidorm Local Police bring their work closer to hundreds of schoolchildren during their open days

La Policía Local de Benidorm acerca su trabajo a cientos de escolares en sus jornadas de puertas abiertas

Several hundred schoolchildren from Benidorm saw the work of Benidorm Local Police this Friday, seeing where the men and women of the force spend part of their workday. This took place during the annual open house organised by the Local Police to "strengthen ties and bring their work closer to the youngest members of the community," explained the Councillor for Public Service, Jesús Carrobles. He added that this year, "in collaboration with the Department of Education, we have added these school visits so that the activity can reach more children in the city."

During these open houses, which are part of the events commemorating the 182nd anniversary of the Benidorm Local Police, the children can tour the various areas of the Local Police headquarters. These include the holding cells where detainees are held, the officers' changing rooms, and the control room where traffic and security incidents are monitored. In addition, they also learn about the vehicles in the fleet, receive safety training, and experience firsthand how the K-9 unit's police dogs work, with a demonstration of evidence detection.

Councillors Jesús Carrobles and Maite Moreno accompanied the schoolchildren on one of these visits, sharing their reactions with the children to the performance of "Nero," one of the K-9 unit dogs.

Both councillors explained that "the rain prevented some schools from coming to make these visits yesterday," but noted that "some of them have been rescheduled and are also taking place today," with the aim of "reaching as many students as possible, because we know it's an activity they really enjoy."

In addition to these school visits, and as part of the events commemorating the 182nd anniversary of the force's founding, the Local Police station will also host its traditional open house this afternoon, starting at 5:00 p.m., with activities for all the children of the city. Furthermore, tomorrow, Saturday, the main anniversary event will take place at 11:30 a.m. at the Cultural Centre.

The day will begin with a police demonstration, which is currently scheduled to be held on Jaén Street outside the Cultural Centre. If the weather does not permit, the demonstration will be held inside, where the official ceremony will follow. During this ceremony, public recognition will be given to the officers who participated in support and assistance efforts for those affected by the DANA storm that flooded approximately 80 municipalities in the province of Valencia in 2014.
