Improvements of works on Orts Llorca avenue allow to act in the whole bend of Number One to alleviate possible floods
In addition to prolonging the pluvial pipeline, a large chest to collect the rainwater is going to be built
The action will force to cut two lanes of circulation in the intersection of Alfonso Puchades with Comunidad Valenciana
The improvements offered by the company awarded the works to minimize flooding in the high section of Dr. Orts Llorca avenue will allow the City Council to act in all the intersection of the avenues Alfonso Puchades and Comunidad Valenciana, known as 'Number One bend'. The councilman of Works, José Ramón González de Zárate, recalled that initially it was going to be acted only in the closest part of Orts Llorca, while now the performance includes all the bend, including the section of Alfonso Puchades .
De Zárate pointed out that the pluvial pipeline that is being installed in Orts Llorca will be extended to Alfonso Puchades, where a large chest will be built to collect the rainwater. With this action is intended "not to have floods in this area or, at least, minimizing them", since it is a black spot whenever there are heavy rains.
This action is going to take place during this week and next, and will force to restrict the circulation and "give alternative routes to traffic". The councillor detailed that "always remain open to traffic two lanes, one for each direction of traffic" reason why drivers have been asked to "slow down" when driving along Alfonso Puchades and if it is possible "looking for alternative routes of circulation".
De Zárate recalled that the works of Orts Llorca increase the capacity of collection and drainage of rainwater in the upper part of the street. To do this, the existing manifold will be repaired and another one of identical characteristics will be installed to avoid saturation of the first. In addition, scuppers will be installed on both sides of the road to capture the water and then it will be proceed to the asphalting of this section. The deadline is four months.
Along with this work is developing another of similar characteristics and with the same purpose in the lower section of the avenue - until the link with Mediterranean - and which is being 100% financed by the Provincial Council of Alicante. In both phases, "Dr. Orts Llorca's stretches will be reformed for the enjoyment of pedestrians" improving the urban scene and especially the sidewalks, which "in some cases are 60 years old."
According to calculations made by the technicians, both performances have a return of 25 years; the probability of having flood problems in this area is reduced to only once in that period, and in any case the problems would not be of the scale that have been so far.
