The organizers hope to continue the trend of every year and exceed the 550 participants of the last edition
El Moralet will host the 'V Solidarity Cross Doble Amor Benidorm' on Sunday, May 12, to give visibility to intellectual disabilities
On May 12, the fifth edition of the Cross Solidario Double Amor will be held, a sporting event of just over five kilometres in the distance that will take place on the grounds of El Moralet Park and whose proceeds will be allocated entirely to the occupational centre for its daily operation.
The presentation of the race took place this morning at the Benidorm Plaza Hotel with the presence of the mayor Toni Pérez, the Councilor for Sports, Javier Jordá; the president of Double Love, José Luis Calvo; the president of the Benidorm Athletics Club, Manuel Peñalver; and José Manuel López, member of the Doble Amor board of directors and 'alma mater' of the race.
José Luis Calvo has explained the three objectives that the test has had since its inception, which are “to give visibility to intellectual disabilities, to be a sporting activity that helps the operation of the centre, since 100% of the proceeds are allocated to this, and give back to Benidorm a small part of how much the city gives us.” For all this, the president of Double Amor added, “this test had to be something different from what there was and I think we are achieving it.”
The Double Love Solidarity Cross is a test “that is consolidated over time,” said Javier Jordá, who believed that “every contribution is too little for what they deserve” and encouraged “that on the 12th we all join this cause.” ”.
The technical director of the race, Manuel Peñalver, took the opportunity to thank the City Council for its support "in all the logistics involved in organizing the race" and specified that it is a five-kilometre distance that is "simple, easy and accessible to everyone.", which is why he is confident that “attendance will be a success.” Registration will be free for all participants under 15 years of age.
For cross country, there will be several categories depending on the age of the participants and there will also be several modalities to attend. There will also be a hiking and Nordic walking test. Registrations can be made through the website www.grupobrotons.es at twelve euros.
Registrations will also be accepted on the day of the race, although in this case the price will be 15 euros and can only be done half an hour before the start of the cross.
José Manuel López has highlighted that cross country "is already part of Benidorm's sports calendar" and that it "grows year after year and soon will become a benchmark event in the region." The data indicates that in its first edition, in 2017, 250 participants registered and the collection was 3,700 euros last year there were more than 550 and the collection was 5,500 euros. Some figures that “we hope to surpass this year.”
The mayor closed the event, highlighting that “this activity is much more than a cross-country race” while thanking “all those who have helped and joined this cross-country race, which is also a point of meeting and coexistence and a day to share.” Toni Pérez encouraged and insisted on“signing up to surpass the figures from the previous year, which will demonstrate that it is a consolidated race.”
