The mayor accompanies Minister José Antonio Rovira on a visit to the institute to see first-hand the state of its facilities and the needs of the center

Education announces the tender for the works to complete the IES Pere Maria Orts i Bosch in Benidorm

29 November 2023
Educación anuncia la licitación de las obras para finalizar el IES Pere Maria Orts i Bosch de Benidorm

The Generalitat Valenciana plans to put out to tender the works of the Pere Maria Orts i Bosch Institute in Benidorm between the end of this year and the beginning of next year. This was announced this Wednesday in Benidorm by the Minister of Education, Universities, and Employment, José Antonio Rovira, who visited the facilities of this IES together with Mayor Toni Pérez; the councilor of Education, Maite Moreno; and other senior officials of the ministry. Both the councilor and the first mayor have witnessed first-hand the state of deterioration of some parts of the center, which Rovira himself has described as “deplorable”, and have recalled that it has been subjected to “eight years of abandonment and unfulfilled promises with different deadlines” by the previous government of Ximo Puig.

During their visit to this center, where Secondary Education, Baccalaureate, and VocationalTraining Cycles are taught, they were accompanied by its director Nacho Gascón López, with whom the mayor and councilor have shared some details about the project to complete the expansion and remodeling works of the IES. In this sense, Rovira has highlighted that the new project "is now completely finalized to put out to tender" and has regretted that "due to the abandonment" to which this building has been subjected in recent years, its cost has increased to 14 million euros. “We – about the current autonomous government chaired by Carlos Mazón – have only been there for four months; "The fact that this institute is years behind schedule is not attributable to our management, but what we can do is speed it up as much as possible."

The councilor has insisted on trusting that “this tender will be a reality between the end of the year and the beginning of next” and that “the works will begin in the middle of the 24th”, to which he added that “if there is a mayor who has been Insistent to reach this solution is Toni Pérez", about whom he has confessed that "he had been a councilor for four days when he called me for the first time to come visit the Pere Maria Orts and we could find a solution."

For his part, the mayor of the city, Toni Pérez, has acknowledged that he "very much wants to put an end to eight years of unfulfilled promises with different deadlines, always with cases that have never been explained." For this reason, he thanked Minister José Antonio Rovira for the interest shown in visiting this institute and seeing first-hand the state in which it is located. Pérez recalled that "after eight years sending letters to the Generalitat, the Department of Education and its then head, Minister Marzà, unsuccessfully requesting an appointment in Valencia to address the educational problems of Benidorm, it has only taken four months so that this councilor comes to personally visit the center and listen to us.”

The first mayor recalled that "this is a work that he was clamoring to start because the situation of deterioration is evident." Furthermore, he noted that the restart of these works has been something “very much demanded” in the city, but he has criticized that “an important part of society only claimed it until 2015”, about the parties that formed the Government of the Botànic, "without taking into account that this institute has accumulated eight more years and four months of deterioration because its situation has not changed or moved since then."

In contrast, Toni Pérez has highlighted the rapid response of the current Generalitat: “In response to our demand, responses. And a more than obvious, quick, and efficient response is what the councilor gave today in person, visiting Benidorm and announcing the imminent tender for these works. For this reason, he was "very satisfied" with the announcement. "If in the first quarter of 24, this is a work in the process of being awarded, it will be great news for Benidorm," he concluded.
