Benidorm commemorates its 697th anniversary as a municipality on Sunday

The city celebrates Benidorm Day and Europe Day on May 8 and 9

06 May 2022
Día de Benidorm.

Next Sunday, May 8 and Monday, May 9, Benidorm will celebrate two institutional plenary sessions that will put an end to a week full of events on the occasion of the granting of the Town Charter to the municipality in the year 1325 by Admiral Bernat de Sarrià.

The traditional representation of the granting will take place tomorrow Saturday from 9:30 p.m. in Plaza de Sant Jaume and the institutional plenary session for 'Benidorm's Day' will be held at twelve noon on Sunday in the Plenary Hall of the City Council.

An act that will begin with the raising of the flags of Spain, the Valencian Community and Europe and the interpretation of the national anthem and that will continue with a speech by the mayor Toni Pérez. The commemorative acts will end with the tribute concert to Pere María Orts i Bosch by the Societat Musical L'Illa at 7:00 p.m. in the Óscar Esplá amphitheatre.

On Monday, May 9, the City Council will also celebrate 'Europe Day' as usual with an institutional plenary session in which the 'Europe Distinction' will be awarded to the "people of Ukraine, after the agreement adopted unanimously by the Board of Spokespersons.

The decision has already been communicated to the Ukrainian consul in Valencia, Pablo Gil, who has confirmed his presence at the plenary session, which will take place at 6:00 p.m. in the Plenary Hall of the City Council. With this 'Europe Distinction', Benidorm wants to recognize "the history, position and indomitable courage and resistance capacity of the Ukrainian people", which for more than two months has been suffering a war conflict derived from the Russian invasion of its territory; and at the same time, show the support and solidarity of the city of Benidorm.

Prior to the plenary session, at 12 noon on Monday, an exhibition on 'Renewable energies and efficient use of energy' will be inaugurated in the City Hall's Espai d'Art, organized by the Department of Works and Urban Scene and the SICE concessionaire. Half an hour later, at Plaza de SS MM Los Reyes de España, another exhibition will also be inaugurated on the actions of the Sustainable and Integrative Urban Development Strategy (EDUSI) in Benidorm.
