The exhibition collects in several panels the most outstanding aspects of the personal and professional life of the Benidorm politician

The Central Library hosts an exhibition on 'Pedro Zaragoza Orts: the mayor of change (1950-1967)

Exposición de Pedro Zaragoza

The Central Library of Benidorm hosts today an exhibition on Pedro Zaragoza with images, texts, and works that are part of the library's archive. An exhibition entitled 'Pedro Zaragoza Orts: the mayor of Change' (1950-1967).

The exhibition is divided into eight sections that try to collect in its entirety the most outstanding aspects of the life of the former mayor, both personally and in the municipal sphere, as well as his main achievements and initiatives.

The first of the sections includes biographical notes on the Benidorm politician, his career in the City Council, his later as civil governor of Guadalajara, and his life after he retires from politics. Another panel shows images and texts related to the water problem in Benidorm, the moment in which a spring well was acquired in Polop to supply the city or the canalization project.

The exhibition also addresses 'The vertical city' the development of the General Plan of 1956 and the changes up to 1963 with the development of large avenues, gardens, and skyscrapers. The 'advertising promotion' is another of the outstanding aspects that reflect Pedro Zaragoza's desire to export the image of Benidorm as a cosmopolitan city and the initiatives to stand out in the media.

The 'Song Festival' and 'El Bikini' are also two outstanding chapters in the show with images from those early years in which the image of Benidorm as a modern city was disseminated and at the same time a large cross was placed in Sierra Helada.

The work of 'Municipal Management' of Zaragoza could not be missing, with images of the Municipal Market or the paving of the streets and the cleaning of the beaches as outstanding milestones, and two of the great promotional initiatives such as 'Operation Lapland and Operation B-B'.

This resulted in the invitation to 60 couples from Bilbao to spend their honeymoon in Benidorm and to a family of Lapps to enjoy a week in the city, always looking for maximum resonance in the media.
