The spokesperson criticises the opposition group for issuing a press release on the plenary session before the session has finished

Caselles: “The PSOE has once again shown its lack of respect towards the plenary session, the citizens, the civil servants and the technicians”

01 October 2024
Lourdes Caselles del Partido Popular

The spokesperson for the local government in Benidorm City Council, Lourdes Caselles, has harshly criticised the attitude of the socialist municipal group and, in particular, of its spokesperson, during the ordinary plenary session held today “for having issued a press release referring to the plenary session itself before the session had finished”. In Caselles' opinion, this attitude “only demonstrates once again the lack of respect that this group shows towards the highest body of this council and, consequently, towards the citizens of Benidorm”

The spokesperson has regretted that with this behaviour of the socialists “it is shown that they are not paying attention to what happens in the session and are more interested in using the media with biased headlines to try to gain their political benefits, however pyrrhic they may be. Instead of focusing on making constructive proposals and following what happens in the Plenary Hall, they are busy writing and issuing press releases with statements from the spokesperson herself when the plenary session is still being held”.

In Caselles' opinion, the members of the socialist group "not only disrespect the institution and the residents, but they do not even bother to hide it." Similarly, the councillor has stressed that the PSOE "also systematically disrespects the mayor and only tries to undermine the government's management" even though, ironically, she has pointed out, "they then vote unanimously on the majority of the points."

The socialist group sent the press above release today at 1:25 p.m. while a motion by the Vox municipal group was being debated. At that time, the debate on said motion had yet to be completed, in addition to six other points in which an order from the High Court of Justice on the APR-7 was reported and two rulings from the contentious administrative court number 1 of Alicante were given which give the City Council the right also on the APR-7 plus the 3 points corresponding to the government's oversight and control.

As for the content of the press release itself, in which the PSOE claims that matters have been raised with incomplete files, the popular spokesperson has stated that “both the general secretary and the auditor have exposed them during the plenary session, clarifying that the files were raised correctly and with all the pertinent and necessary reports.”

Furthermore, Caselles has insisted that “it is not the mayor who prepares and prepares the files of the points, but the technicians and officials.” “Therefore, if they are criticising the content of the files, what they are doing is criticising the officials whom they claim to defend so much” she concluded.
