Benidorm shows its rejection of gender violence for the murder of a woman in El Prat del Llobregat
Benidorm has shown today its rejection of gender violence on the occasion of the last sexist crime registered in Spain, which brings to 53 the number of women killed so far this year by their partners or former partners. The acting mayor, Ana Pellicer, and the Councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, have spearheaded the silent gathering in which representatives of the Corporation's groups, municipal staff and neighbors have participated.
This last crime was recorded yesterday in Barcelona in the town of El Prat del Llobregat, where a man has killed his 36-year-old partner. After ending the woman's life, this alleged murderer, 44, turned himself in to the Local Police.
In addition to the 53 confirmed fatalities, there are still several cases under investigation, so the number of women killed in 2019 could be higher.
The Department of Equality reiterates that women who feel threatened, have at their disposal all municipal public services. They have also influenced the existence of the toll-free telephone number against sexist violence, 016, which serves 52 languages and leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to delete it from the call log.
