Benidorm replaces the expansion joints of the bridge over the Xixo ravine to end the inconvenience to the neighbors

26 April 2024
Benidorm sustituye las juntas de dilatación del puente sobre el barranco de Xixo para terminar con las molestias a los vecinos

The Department of Urban Scene of Benidorm City Council will begin in one week the work to replace the four existing expansion joints on the bridge over the Xixo ravine, on Cuba Avenue, due to their obsolescence and to address the problems it causes to the neighbors. An intervention is also intended to avoid a future road safety problem if the deterioration is greater.

The work will last for about ten days and will have a very slight impact on traffic. However, it will not be cut off, as specified today by the Councilor for Urban Scene and Mobility, Francis Muñoz, who visited before the start of the intervention. “This road has two traffic lanes in each direction, one is used only by taxis, buses and bicycles. During the days while work is being done, traffic will run along a single lane in each direction," Muñoz said, adding that detours and conditions "will be conveniently signposted. However, traffic will not be cut off at any time."

The councillor has also indicated that the work is being carried out now because “according to the technicians it is the best time to do it due to the temperatures. In summer the terrain would be much more expanded due to the heat and in winter it would be the opposite.”

The intervention proposed by the technicians includes, first of all, the removal of the current expansion joints made of reinforced neoprene, a material that is no longer used and is deteriorating. Afterwards, new elastic 'gum' type joints will be made, which will be sealed with the appropriate materials and will have a surface treatment "to improve the adhesion of vehicles as they pass through this point."

The repair of the damaged curbs and tiles will also be undertaken and locksmith work will be carried out to eliminate the sharp edges that have been detected on the bridge railing.

The councillor has stated that this specific action at the top of the bridge over the Xixo ravine “has been requested by the residents of the area and we as the City Council have responded to the request because it is reasonable and serves to end a noise problem that “It affects the neighbours closest to the road.”
