Benidorm's El Moralet urban park was awarded the prestigious "Blue Trail" distinction last February, granted annually by the Association for Environmental Education and Consumer Protection (ADEAC). The city has received this award for the second consecutive year in recognition of the park's high environmental value.

This morning, the Councillor for the Environment, Mónica Gómez, attended the official presentation ceremony, which, as she explained, "recognises the efforts dedicated to the recovery, maintenance, and enhancement" of the park. The ceremony took place at Cullera Castle and was attended by the president of ADEAC, José Palacios, and the Regional Secretary for the Environment of the Valencian Government, Sabina Goretti Galindo.

Gómez highlighted that the ‘Blue Trail Flag 2026’ award recognises “the commitment of municipalities and public administrations to the recovery and enhancement of trails and paths that promote environmental education and the sustainable enjoyment of the environment.” This award, therefore, “recognises the trails and paths that have been restored and transformed into valuable resources for interpretation and environmental education, as well as for enjoying nature through sustainable recreational, sporting, and tourism activities,” she added.

El Moralet Perimeter Trail, recognised with this award, offers an unbeatable way to explore this vast green space of over 1 million square meters. Connecting different points of the park via a circular route, the trail allows visitors to enjoy the diverse landscapes, natural richness, and recreational areas within it.

Along its easily navigable route, visitors can walk or cycle through pine forests and reforested areas with over 10,000 native trees. The trail also features panoramic viewpoints, rest areas, picnic tables, and interpretive signage, creating an experience designed for enjoying nature peacefully and sustainably.

The Councilor for the Environment noted that “this City Council has been firmly committed in recent years to restoring and enhancing this space and adapting it for the enjoyment of the public,” with numerous initiatives “that have transformed it into a true green lung for the municipality, where many people enjoy connecting with nature by walking or playing sports at any time of year.”

To achieve the Blue Trail award, several criteria and indicators must be met, grouped into four categories: characteristics of the paths and routes; information, signage, and infrastructure along the trails; conservation and management of natural and cultural heritage; and public use of the trails.
