Benidorm presents its 3rd Theatre Festival, which brings five performances by professional and amateur companies to the city

Benidorm City Council's Department of Culture presented this Wednesday the third edition of the Theater Festival, which will take place next May at the Cultural Center and will feature five performances by a professional theatre company and four amateur companies made up of residents of Benidorm and other towns in the Marina Baixa. The councillor for the department, Jaime Jesús Pérez, was accompanied at this presentation by representatives of the latter: the Municipal Theater Workshop, Alpí Teatre, Tossal Teatre, and Teatro 360. They offered a glimpse of the scripts they will perform and thanked the city for its support of this event, which represents "a great opportunity" for performing arts enthusiasts.
Jaime Jesús Pérez announced that the third Theater Festival will be held between May 23rd and 30th and that all performances will be in the Cultural Center's Auditorium starting at 8:00 p.m. He also noted that tickets for the public are now on sale at www.entradasatualcance.com, with a symbolic price of 4 euros for amateur performances; 15 euros for the performance starring the Yllana company and Prímitial Brothers; and the option to purchase a five-session pass for 25 euros.
The councillor emphasized that this is a "great opportunity to enjoy theatre in Benidorm," as part of a municipal initiative that aims to "bring both professional and amateur theatre performances to all residents and tourists of our city." Therefore, he invited the public to "buy their tickets and participate, because we are sure they will have a great time in each format."
The 3rd Benidorm Theater Festival will kick off on Friday, May 23, with "Madness. An a cappella musical delirium." The Culture Councilor announced that "this is the latest production by the Yllana company, a musical comedy about life on the margins of the system," in which Yllana and the Primital Brothers "once again join forces to tell us that technology is the new mythology, that everyday life is crazy, that laughter is sacred, and a cappella singing is an anchor to humanity."
The next performance will be presented by the Municipal Theater Workshop, directed by Manuel Troncoso, on Saturday, May 24. It will be an adaptation of the Greek theatre classic "Medea," a performance that, according to Charo Ortuño, "has a plot that remains completely relevant today and that has stood the test of time."
The third performance will feature a contemporary play entitled "En la luna" (On the Moon), written by Alfredo Sanzol, which won several Max Awards in 2013. It will take place on Wednesday, May 28th, and will be performed by the Alpí Teatre company. Its director, Ricardo Molina, stated today that the play is "a tribute to our parents, to that generation that was young in the 1970s and experienced the Transition, through short scenes that unfold from dreams from that moment in Spanish history."
On May 29th, the Tossal Teatre group will perform "Melocotón en almíbar" (Peach in Syrup) by Miguel Mihura, a story that is "very entertaining, with no pretensions, consequences, or moral other than the mere amusement of the audience," stated Manuel Palazón, who is convinced that those who see it "will have a great time."
Finally, the Teatro 360 company will debut this year in Benidorm, closing the Theater Festival on May 30th, with a play written and directed by Arlene Iribarren, entitled "The Labyrinth of Time." The author noted that it is "a comedy with a touch of fantasy, where a group of people are invited to dinner at a luxury restaurant and whose characters find themselves caught in a time loop in which many secrets are revealed."
The Councilor for Culture encouraged theatre lovers "to enjoy the different offerings that make up this Festival, which seeks to offer viewers different styles and genres to reach all audiences."
