The intervention aims to continue creating green spaces with pine and olive trees

Benidorm plants 300 trees in the area surrounding the park and ride facility on Beniardá Avenue

Benidorm planta 300 árboles en el entorno del aparcamiento disuasorio de la avenida Beniardá

The Parks and Gardens Department of Benidorm City Council has begun planting approximately 300 trees in the area surrounding the park-and-ride facility on Beniardá Avenue. This area belongs to El Moralet urban park, which is adjacent to the parking lot and was in need of this type of intervention.

According to the Councillor for Parks and Gardens, José Ramón González de Zárate, the planting has been carried out “in an area that was formerly used as vegetable gardens, and with this project, we are creating more green space and woodland with the saplings that have been planted,” stated González de Zárate. The trees planted are mostly pines and olive trees.

The councillor highlighted that the city currently boasts a well-established green infrastructure with “nearly 39,000 trees,” in addition to 4,000 palm trees, which constitutes “an essential element for improving environmental quality, public health, and urban resilience to climate change.” In this regard, González de Zárate indicated that the local tree population exhibits “remarkable diversity,” with some 150 different species, “which promotes ecological stability and reduces vulnerability to pests and diseases.”

The councillor emphasised that urban tree planning “has evolved toward a more sustainable model” based on criteria such as increasing shaded areas, diversifying species, adapting to the Mediterranean climate, and ensuring compatibility with urban infrastructure. But he also highlighted the “numerous actions” that have been carried out in El Moralet Park, where we have implemented fire prevention measures, planted trees, created and improved paths, and, in short, improved a park that is now enjoyed by thousands of citizens and visitors and that has become one of the main attractions of the city.”
